Re: Bullbar coming

I was recently at TJM in Brisbane looking at fitting a UHF.In discussions they advised that they had a new bull bar to fit the new jeeps. Mine is an GC Overland and I will follow up further on the bulbar.
I have not seen one but will be back talking to them about who makes them, TJM or a third party.

Regards
Strategy

Re: Bullbar coming

IMO most of the TJM bars look ugly. Almost like the ECB one, too big or disproportional or something.
I think that ARB do a pretty good job though, it seems they put more time into the aesthetics

How did this not come up in your discussion? Seems like there's not a lot else to say about a bullbar..

Re: Bullbar coming

Hi Studgun,
Not sure what you are alluding to.
I am setting up my overland for some extended travel early next year and in discussions with them about fitting UHF, Anderson Plug and some other equipment the bullbar availability was stated by the person I have dealt with previously

regards
Strategy.

Sorry, it's been a long day and that probably came across as a bit snarky. Just wondering why the salesman didn't mention brand or anything more than just that there may be a bullbar coming, and why you didn't ask any more.

Re: Bullbar coming

Update from ARB;
" Hello Bob,

Thank you for your enquiry to ARB and your interest in our products.

ARB have been experiencing an extended busy period with a high demand on our engineers. This has caused us to run a little behind on product development for a few vehicles.

We anticipate starting develop of a winch bar for the Grand Cherokee this year and I hope that it will be available to order early next year.

Bushranger side steps are already available and there may be other products developed for this vehicle also, however I can’t confirm details at this stage.

Kind regards

Andrew Bellamy
Product Manager"

I wouldn't hold your breathe for ARB. There's only one other Aus company worse at keeping their word..........CJA

Re: Bullbar coming

Few people die pottering around on bush tracks. People die every day in high speed crashes in freeways. Aerodynamic stability is critical at high speeds. Jeeps are easily capable of very high speeds. The air-dam is an integral part of the Jeep's aerodynamic design. Adding a bull-bar inevitably increases the drag coefficient and therefore fuel consumption. One can live with that in view of the protection a bull-bar affords. However, if adding the bull-bar removes the air-dam or otherwise upsets the aerodynamic stability of the car at speed, then that is a serious issue. I'm surprised that there is so little written on this. It would be good to see some high speed stability tests run with bull-bars fitted. Just a thought.

The air dam on a car like a JGC does little more than affect the appearance of the car. It sits so high that there is a lot of air zinging underneath. The only likely effect would be from the strike plate, which is usually angled up from the underside. But of you have the offload pack it has a pretty similar plate, and the bullbar manufacturers are usually designing for the same approach angle offload, so the plate will be in about the same place and angle.

There may be some effect at high speed, but there is nowhere on Australian public roads that you can legally drive at high speed ... And by high speed, I mean 150kph plus. I've driven a lot in Europe on the German highways in an older rangie and modern cars have aerodynamic issues until far higher speeds than you are ever likely to do in this country (unless you're planning on a major confrontation with the law).

Re: Bullbar coming

Is anyone seriously looking at the Rocky Road winch setup? Jeep Grand Cherokee winch bumper, WK2... 2011, 2012, 2013
If you look at their site, you will see that it replaces the bumperbar support frame. By doing so, the Aussie MY12's may then also support the old dual recovery hooks as seen on the MY11's.
Pricing appears great, with the exception of around $700 for shipping.
It seems a more aesthetic approach than the big bull bars being offered locally.

Problems (for me) are no protection for front of GC from skippy's etc, and it is not Australian crash test compliant so insurance companies would have a field day not paying on any claims
