Re: Capless fuel filler and dust

That magnetic cap looks like a good idea. It's a shame you need to buy something to overcome Jeep's innovations. Jeep should offer them as a free option.

I was thinking of a piece of foam glued to the inside of the door that would push against the the opening when the door was pushed closed.

Now THERE's an idea.
Perfect foam will be the stuff used as air filters on small engines, to make sure the gas doesn't dissolve it. Will test contact cement to see if that dissolves in gas, if it does, may use silicon or soft epoxy.

...unless I can figure out a clever way to add a mount for one of the foam filters off my rototiller, so it can be easily changed if it gets grungy.

Velcro? I would only use a bit of velcro, though, as the hinges on the Jeep fuel door aren't all that durable and too much velcro can require a lot of force.

Wouldn't using foam push on the door and let more dust in around the door seal?

Re: Capless fuel filler and dust

Tried the agi drain cap idea and it does a good job, although I almost lost my sh*t the first time I tried to get it back off until I remembered chocco saying something about twisting it off. Also glued some magnets inside to stick the to the side of the car when filling up, works a treat. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1412595105.519222.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1412595121.903172.jpg

Re: Capless fuel filler and dust

I suggest sticking another magnet to the inside of the fuel door, so you can stick the cap to that and not your paintwork.

Re: Capless fuel filler and dust

I just set my cap inside, to the right of the filler. Simple.

But that is not inventive ...

Just plain old common sense.

Re: Capless fuel filler and dust

Just gone the agi drain cap route from Bunnings. Works a treat. Trimmed off one of the 4 inside raised catches which makes it now very easy to take off. A bit fiddly with all four in place, trimming one off makes it super easy. Will now paint it black and all hunkey dory!!
