Re: Castrol Edge Titanium $39.99 for 5 lts

Thanks Snuke - I have posted on this before, but i recall reading on a US oil thread (and Im sure it was this forum) where a member had posted what I thought was further information on the MS11106 spec.

When I researched it early on when Shell pulled the swiftly with Helix Ultra Extra, as far as I could determine MS11106 related to a test where an oil is burnt on a heated plate. The ash residue is then measured. I don't know the specification, and it is highly possible that an oil company may not choose to subject their oil (or pay the fee) to come up with a Chrysler approval.
For me ash residue is absolutely relevant to the oil selection, and I need no more convincing to stick with and pay for a an oil that carries MS11106.
John
I'm sure you are right but my point is that Chrysler may well have borrowed MB 229.51 and rebadged it as Chrysler spec MS11106. Standards organisations do this all the time. Remember that there are a lot of synergies with MB, MB owned Chrysler for a time, the WK2 has an MB designed platform, the 6 speed box is an MB design and the VM Motori was designed in Europe for Europe. Anyway, I'm just guessing but sure would like to know so as to stop all this teeth gnashing about MS11106. I've asked the question on the Bob is the Oil Guy site with nothing definitive other than the pic attached which implies they are the same.

Re: Castrol Edge Titanium $39.99 for 5 lts

When I was searching yesterday, I came across a post on BTOG where someone asked what MS-11106 was exactly.
The reply was that they thought it was the same as MB 229.51.

Thinking it is the same and it actually being the same are two different things though.

Re: Castrol Edge Titanium $39.99 for 5 lts

I'm happy with the direction of that thought........is it documented anywhere what MB 229.51 specs are?
Forgive me Snuke, we are in Longreach and TLS has provided no bandwidth for searching.

Click on that link above, it will show a spec handbook which is only 2.2mb to download.
I didn't read it.

That was me in my alter ego BobT3218. I agree with you, that's why I didn't refer to the post.
