Castrol Edge Titanium $39.99 for 5 lts

Hi guys

Don't know if i should have placed this elsewhere or not.

I see Repco has a sale on Castrol full syn Edge Titanium for $39.99 for 5 ltrs.
Looked it up on the Castrol website and it is recomended for the MY14 Jeep.

Seems to good a deal to pass up and John Hughes and most dealers use Castrol (possibly a lower grade) and i do get $220 of for supplying my own oil.
It ACEA c3 and DPF suitable.

What do you think?

I might grab a couple of cartons if there is no negative feedback from you guys

Thanks
Elvin

Thanks for the heads up. However, don't you think the manufacturer would be just a little biased towards its own product? What matters is that it is approved to Jeep's requirements.

Re: Castrol Edge Titanium $39.99 for 5 lts

The only doubts i have is that i have used Shell Helix Ultra previously(Supplied my own oil) and been one of the few that haven't had the dreaded DPF code.

Personally i would not use castrol in a diesel motor
I would much rather pay a fe dollars more for a better oil
Mobil 1 esp fully syn oil ticks all the boxes

Re: Castrol Edge Titanium $39.99 for 5 lts

Castrol are in the process of updating their product range so the web site and recommendations may not match the data sheets and may not match the can.

Just be sure that it has ACEA C3 and MB 229.51 on the bottle. Be certain it is not a A3/B4 product. Jeep service have often been using Castrol OEX professional!, that was not available to the public.

Me, I make sure that oil for the CRD also meets VW 504.00 & 507,00.

Up to MY13 models, it was implied that the oil had to meet Chrysler spec MS 11106, but the wording in the manual was unclear. I suspect that they meant MS11106 compliance if using only a MB 229.31 oil, but with MB 229.51, the MA 11106 was not required. Unfortunately, we will never know. Only Mobil ESP met all specs, to be sure.

I went to Repco and looked at the oil advertised and there was a contradiction with what the web site had on it and the container had.

I phoned castrol and had a lengthy chat. Nice guy and put me straight and apparently the labeling is crap and the one for the Jeep is Castrol Edge FST 5-30 with ACEA C3 and suitable for DPF and is on special this Thursday for $49.99 for 5lts.I had a carton set aside and will pick it up later this week.
Still a very good price.

Re: Castrol Edge Titanium $39.99 for 5 lts

Like you, I checked direct with Castrol. Their reply:

Thank you for your email enquiry below.

You’re quite correct, the Castrol ‘Magnatec Professional A3 10W-30’ is not a suitable engine oil for this Jeep.

Suitable engine oils in our range would include;

-Castrol ‘Edge Professional OE-X 5W-30’ : Available in 20 litre (and larger) containers
-Castrol ‘Edge 5W-30’ # : Available in 5 litre retail packs

# Please ensure that you see an ‘ACEA C3’ reference on the label - the separate retail product called Castrol ‘Edge 5W-30 A3/B4’ would not be suitable

Thanks again.

If you are not concerned with Chrysler MS11106, then Penrite Enviro-Plus 5W-30 is also a good option.

If only we knew what MS11106 was. I've been trying to find out to no avail. It may be nothing more than MB 225.51.

One of the US oil threads explained it Bob - I can't put my finger on it at the moment.......Snuke or someone else savvy might be along in a minute.
When I researched it early on when Shell pulled the swiftly with Helix Ultra Extra, as far as I could determine MS11106 related to a test where an oil is burnt on a heated plate. The ash residue is then measured. I don't know the specification, and it is highly possible that an oil company may not choose to subject their oil (or pay the fee) to come up with a Chrysler approval.
For me ash residue is absolutely relevant to the oil selection, and I need no more convincing to stick with and pay for a an oil that carries MS11106.
John

I thought one of you posted the details in one or both of the Oil threads (this third thread doesn't count)
