Re: Chrome Side Steps

I was hoping to do it tonight, got it all unpacked, slid under car, saw the ducting.
It was clear I was going to run out of time before it got too dark, so now I have all bolts etc in front of me that I am prepping

Re: Chrome Side Steps

Glad I just watched this, very helpful.
My instructions say nothing about the square plastic washers.

Re: Chrome Side Steps

I've never seen plastic washers. They may be there to stop the paint surface from scratching???

The plastic washers help stop the bolt going back up when you go to put washers and nut on, as you can't push it down, they hold it.

Re: Chrome Side Steps

Well that was fun. Fitted one last night after doing a pre trial on Thursday night.
I just did the second. I had really just been following the video as the instructions are pretty ugly to follow.
However as I started to do second side realised I did not have all the correct washers and still had 3 nylock nuts. In short, I stuffed it up and was not allocating the washers correctly. Ultimately I think would make no difference, but I rechecked everything.
It has taken longer than it should because of this, not having a 16mm ring spanner, only the socket, and not a deep enough 18mm socket.

When putting the cable ducting back on, one section was being blocked by a bolt.
Again, it shouldn't really matter, but I am now going to go get a shorter 10mm bolt, deep 18mm socket, and a nut, as I have ended up one short.
Quick scrounge through my bolts and nuts, but I need to get that deep socket.

Re: Chrome Side Steps

For those that might be interested.
Fitted today in 1.5 hours.
$404 delivered to Brisbane (non genuine of course) from eBay.
Look good. No problem with parts except for a small washer missing and one of the 'T' bolts needed 1 mm taken off to get it into the hole.
Not sure about the longevity of the plastic and I added some glue to the ends to augment the single screw and friction mounting. Painted the bolts black too.
For the money, I'm pretty pleased. Hope this helps someone.
Cheers
Andrew

Re: Chrome Side Steps

Nice colour car.

Here are mine, it took way too long as I just used the Spyder YouTube video above as a guide, and didn't read the instructions. As a result I used all of one kind of bolt on one side, as they do in the video. Go to the other side and realised the bolts I had left didn't look right. Re-did all again. The written instructions aren't ideal, but in use with the video it was all good.

I still usually step over them, dumb as this will sound, I wasn't expecting the extra width to be so dramatic. I guess because the ones that were standard on our Pajero were narrower.
The one thing I don't like about them, and I see the same in your Twscoot, is that they are not level. There looks to be adjustment on mine, but in reality because of the main anchor points, there is none.
You can see that the rear end sits below the front end. When I noticed this I undid it all again and re-assembled in the hope I could pull it up. So all in all, I fit these things 3.5 times.

Happy new year!
Yes the steps aren't level when you look at it from a distance but they are level with the ground. Spirit-level perfect in fact which I checked this morning. Guess it depends what you are comparing to.
Anyway. All good. Yours a nice colour too!
Love the JGC.
(I put leather in mine (Laredo) perforated seats and nappa quality. Towed my 2.7t van for the holidays with no drama).
Cheers
Andrew.
