Mine definitely doesn't whistle or clack. You might consider leaving the vehicle overnight at the dealer so they can experience a cold start.

With out forums like this we wouldn't know what is available as the dealers do not inform you of any upgrades.

Thanks Elvin,

Taking mine in on Monday to get done along with a few other warranty repairs. I totally agree about not being informed without this forum.

My girl said to me, "you got your Jeep, why do you keep reading that forum?".

This exact reason!

Cheers

Re: CRD MY2014 Engine Noisy When Cold - & Auto Gear Shift Jerky

Brilliant info on that TSb for the tranny. I've almost been in 2 accidents in the past 2 months because of late or too early gear shifts.

Almost at 10k, so will wait till then.

That excessive noise doesn't sound too good.
Hope that gets sorted!

Re: CRD MY2014 Engine Noisy When Cold - & Auto Gear Shift Jerky

Well my MY14 Laredo CRD is only 8 weeks old and now on statup the diesel shakes and sounds like it's missing a few cylinders when idling until driven for several minutes..I've had it back to the local dealer and he did some software stuff with the injectors which seemed to work for a while but that was a flase assumption..Trouble is that the rough idle is mostly only when cold but not always. Also intermittent so when I take it into get checked Murphy's Law kicks in and it starts perfectly...Yesterday the rough idle was sacry so I took it back to the dealer iwhere I bought it and said "I don't want it back until there is a satisfactory fix" and handed over the keys..Can't tow the way it is and to keep driving it may cause sever damage so now Jeepless

Excursion I'm yet to capture the sound ..believe me I've had other diesels...this sound is bad...more the loud clack clak clak..yet it sometimes does not occur..this makes me think there is some kind intermittent fuel flow problem...the engine also makes a whistling sound when you take your foot of the throttle
Mine also whistled when slowing down from new, the demo I drove at the dealers did also. My whistle noise has gone now with 4000k on the clock. Noise was actually gone by about 2000k's. I like the diesel noise and yes it is a little noisier when cold, as it should be. Cheers.

Well...5 days now at the dealer..They say no OBD codes in the log so they checked injectors & fuel pump pressure etc and all are ok. Now they are lost for clues so now sent out a request to all other Jeep dealers to see if they have a solution..Looks like I'll be Jeeples for sometime...This is what happens when computers take over and the old fashion hands on mechanic is regarded as a dinosaur .

Re: CRD MY2014 Engine Noisy When Cold - & Auto Gear Shift Jerky

Swampy...BP normally but since this has happened I've run Caltex and Shell..Before brand change I've run the previous brand down to just on empty..Fuel was one of the first things to suspect.

When starting the CRD sounds like it's on 3 cyls and sometimes there is a strange knocking noise on the left side...I suspect that this is the side not igniting correctly. I'm not a mechanic as such but on my previous Commander when the glow plugs neared end-of-life the Commander was very hard to start and without glow plugs functioning correctly then active regen of the DPF can't happen as far as I know because they are an essential part of the regen process...If some pots are not firing and excess fuel is forced out to the exhaust system , what DPF damage that will eventually do. Hate to think what the diesel high compression is doing to raw fuel in the cylinders...I think this is the source of the sometimes knocking but I stand to be corrected.

Sounds like it has been doing it for a few tankfuls then.

That's a tough one and intermittent problems are always the worst, especially if they can't "replicate" the issue in the garage.

I wonder if the dealer will check / change the diesel filters. Then possibly dismantle and clean the injectors. Could have been some residual crap in the lines from new or a bad tank of diesel. Filters unfortunately don't stop everything.

Keep us posted. Maybe its an electronic / electrical fault. You would think that a few codes would be thrown up though.

Good Luck.

I have the same problem with my Grand Cherokee. Been back to the dealer 6 times for this. They are doing everything they can. It's only got 4,000kms on it! They have replaced; injectors, EGR, throttle body, harmonic balancer and ECU. Still no fix it did do it every time you started it. Now it's not a frequent but still happens but it now does it randomly when stopping! Getting to the point of wanting another car or my money back. I'm pretty reasonable but it's now spending more time at the dealer than I've had it! It's been there for a week now!
