Ill have to disagree with you. The piece Snuke supplied out of the manual states that only ACEA-C3 is required.
MS-11106 is only a chrysler standard.

That's OK, MS-11106 does involve further testing / approvals. The point whether MS11106 is actually required or not is a different point.

Re: CRD oil on special

It appears that the Diesel Supplement to the US 2014 WK2 manual specifies engine oil in two places as follows:
  1. "We recommend you use ACEA C3 5W-30 engine oil meeting Chrysler material standard MS-11106 or Penzoil Ultra Euro L full synthetic 5W-30 motor oil"
  2. "Only use SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Low Ash engine oil such as MOPAR, Pennzoil® or Shell Helix® which is recommended for all operating temperatures. This engine oil improves low temperature starting and vehicle fuel economy."
This is really weird. Checking the Penzoil site (US only) takes one to the Shell site where, sure enough "Penzoil Ultra Euro L" is listed but no mention of MS-11106. Checking the actual US Shell site shows nothing suitable under "Shell Helix" but it has something called "Quaker State Ultimate Durability Euro L 5W-30 Synthetic" and this is approved to MS-11106. Sounds religious . Anyway, while interesting, it's all academic for us here in Oz. Our formulations are something else again but the MS-11106, whatever that is, does seem to be significant.

Re: CRD oil on special

Thanks Swampy, now for a stupid question. How does the pail come? If it comes in one drum how do you provide the appropriate quantity to the service department?

Hi zzkazu

The pail is just one drum. I admit that I hadn't thought through the context of your question as I Self Perform all my own servicing, so not sure what you would do in regards to a dealer. Possibly you could decant the required quantity into a new plastic 10 litre container from Supercheap or similar, and ask for the container back?

Not sure if I jinxed things, as I was the one who noticed the MS-11106 reference removal from shell helix. But upon receiving my Mobil 1 ESP oil I notice no reference it on the label; although there is site reference to it.

Yes, I have an email from their tech dep. who confirms ms11106 approvals. Just not shown on the 20 litre drum.
