Occasionally, the Castrol Edge 5W-30 FST can be had on sale from either Supercheap Auto or Repco over here in WA for less than $40/5L

That equates to $8/L for the Castrol

The cheapest I have found for the Mobil 1 ESP is $14.50/L

Quite a bit of saving if you consider the % and to service the Jeep CRD requires just shy of 8L per oil change.

For all we know MS-11106 might simply defer to MB 229.51 just as many Australian Standards defer to ISO standards. Some members have manuals that specify the Fiat 9.55535-S3 standard, no doubt in view of Fiat now owning Chrysler. I've been trying to find a copy of MS-11106 but predictably it's like getting blood out of a stone.
Further to my post above. it seems we may never know what MS-11106 actually is, see Chrysler MS-11106 vs MB-229.51 the same spec? | European and Import Motor Oils | Bob Is The Oil Guy

Been informed that the RRP is
5lt = $90 on special for $72
1lt = $23.20 on special for $19.20

Still a bit more expensive than GL Lubricants, but at least for us in the West we save on the shipping

A word of warning - for some reason the O'Connor store stated that the special didnt cover this oil where the other stores we called were happy to give the RRP and the special price

Now how long is the shelf life on this oil, is it worth picking a number of 5lt containers for a few oil changes now while it is on special?

Seem to recall that with new filters, the Jeep takes around the 8.5lts?

Have you tried Statewide Oil in Welshpool?

FYI I believe it is 7.7Litres.

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Maintenance information and schedules

@ $72 / 5 Litre ($14.4/L) it is only marginally cheaper than what you can get on ebay ($15.48/L)

OK thanks Jason so its
8.0 qts. (7.7 liters) (w/filter) for the 2014 models
9.0 qts. (8.4 liters) (w/filter) for the 2011-2013 models

No I havent tried Statewide, but I just had a quick look at their website and it says it is available in 20Lt and 208Lt but cant see any pricing

Mine has only just had its 1000km check up (it spent more time in the workshop than on the road for the first couple of months) so wasn't thinking about oil at all until I saw the Repco catalouge.

When the time was closer I was looking at getting some sent over from GL Lubricants because they have been mentioned a couple of times here on the forum

$67.50/5lt which is only $13.50/1Lt but then add on the $16.88 Shipping $84.38
Even the ones that I saw on ebay a month or so ago when I looked had postage on top??

Any little saving is better in my pocket and the convenience of being to nip down and see it before buying it?

Re: CRD oil on special

I know it doesn't really have relevance to WA, but just for general info I paid $243.20 for 20l of Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 in April this year, picked up from local depot at Pacific Petroleum in Burleigh Heads Qld. it came from their head office at Rocklea Brisbane.
Might give an idea of what this oil can be obtained for over here in the east, for those fortunate enough to be able to avoid freight or postage costs.

As far as shelf life is concerned, the plastic drum carried a use by date of August 2015, but didn't show a manufacture date (comes from Mobil in France). The drum looked as though it had been in storage for some time, certainly wasn't pristine from the factory, although the seal was unbroken.

Hi Mark

Just email Statewide Oil for a price.

I am pretty sure that GL lubricants is a "Grey" importer, which maybe important to you, or not.

Shelf life of retail oils is about two years simply because the label starts to look a bit ratty and dated after that. Physical shelf life is 20+ years. Additives may tend to settle out after that. The new synthetics probably last longer. They are so pure to begin with and have fewer additives. So changing oil every 6 months makes no sense at all.
