Re: CRD oil on special

It seems there is now some cross posting between this thread and Chrysler MS 11106 compliant oil.
but I'll buy in here with my thoughts on Shell Helix HX7 ECT 5W-30.

1. The specification of this oil linked to in this and the other thread include reference to MS11106, so it appears that Shell want people to believe that the oil is compliant.
2. Nowhere did I read "approved"
3. In the engineering spec for MS11106 (previously posted, thanks again), there is a clear statement that the oil must meet MB 229.51. The Shell spec notes MB approval 229.31 - no mention of 229.51.
4. My conclusion therefore is the oil cannot meet MS11106, let alone be "approved" to this standard.

MS11106 clearly sets out the specification intention and requirements for a candidate oil that must be met, including registration and testing procedure. This includes testing for and measurement of: sludge, component wear, fuel economy, piston cleanliness, viscosity increase, base number depletion, piston deposits. It also mentions a Diesel Patriculate Filter system twice.
Oils submitted, tested and meeting the referenced standards through the process will carry an "approval".

My dealings with Shell Technical Services (see the start of this thread) did not inspire confidence in their product at the time, the way they approached the unannounced major change in formulation of an oil - which could have significant and very expensive consequences for an unsuspecting user - turned me off the brand for life.

The way Shell Helix HX7 ECT 5W-30 is documented (as far as I can see) gives me no reason to revise my thoughts.
John

Not sure how much you guys pay for CRD oil but there's a special on the Mopar 5W-30 DPF compliant oil here:

I checked out the part number and it appears to be genuine and listed here also Mopar 68231014GA *OIL-5W30 . Note that these are 946mL bottles not 1L bottles so one would need 10 of them. The eBay price shipped comes to AUD161.45 whereas the Drive Auto Parts price shipped from the US comes to USD165.90 (~AUD215). So it's a good price to Mopar oil. Nine 1L bottles of Mobile 1 ESP from GL Lubricants on eBay is $165.90 shipped so it's much of a muchness.

Re: CRD oil on special

Is this the right oil for the WK2 Eco Diesel?

Repco Catalogues

Just thought $50 for 5lt wasn't too bad a price.

Or do we need the EP version

Had a bit of messing around by Repco with their last catalogue. Stated 20% of the entire Mobil range, after ringing and getting prices I asked some friends to pick me up some.
When They brought it around it wasn't the ESP, so they attempted to swap it the next day, only to be told that the ESP was not a stocked item and they would need to specially order it in and it wasnt covered by the advertised special!
So just got my money back

Re: CRD oil on special

I too found Repco not the least bit interested in getting me the ESP.

I actually dropped into GL Lubricants and got a 12 pack for $160.

For Sydneysiders they are at Regents Park and the whole transaction took under a minute.
I think in their ebay add they say cash payment for pickup, but I used card and I did not contact before arrival.

Thats a pretty good price for peace of mind with the absolute best oil and the individual bottles make it easy to hand over close to the right amount at service.

Re: CRD oil on special

I finally got my 2014 manual for my GC on Thursday (hand delivered) from the Parts manager, whilst he was in the shop I asked him what brand of oil are they using in the 3.0lt Diesels. As I'd like to have continuity in oil changes; His reply was Sunoco, Ok that took me a bit by surprise. I know we have an agent in town for it,.

He was unable to tell me off hand exactly what the name and number was but a search of Sunoco's site brings up quite a lot 5W30's. I'm just back from Perth but will enquire on Monday.

Just wondering if anyone else has used this brand and which type.
There seems to be a couple that tick the box's:

http://www.sunoco.be/PDF/UK/TDSUKSYN...0C2%205W30.PDF

http://www.sunoco.be/PDF/UK/TDSUKSYN...NON%205W30.PDF

Without searching can anyone tell me what brand of oil the CRD's shipped with?

Thanks
