Re: CRD oil on special

So after reading the Pdf on MS11106 I have a clearer understanding of what's required. All the talk about MS11106 lead me to believe is was a Chrysler specification when in fact it's only a Document number.

The real specification here is that it meets the ACEA C3 requirement.
And as long as the oil you are choosing meets the Mercedes Benz 229.51 engine oil standard is all that matters. Yes!

Infact after reading the MS1106 the Sunoco oil second link would meet these spec's

I'm not here to start a fight, but that is NOT what the oil experts say on BITOG. MS-11106 has a few things more stringent than MB 229.51.

No problems here mate... we are all pretty mellow. Tell us what you've picked up. The understanding reached here a while ago was it was the ash level when burnt which placed MS-11106 above MB 229.51

Cheers,
Steve

Yep, but its pretty close:

MS-11106 compared to MB 229.51:
sulfur content limit. <0.2% vs 0.3%
Sulphated ash content <0.8% vs 0.8%
Phosphorous content <0.08% vs 0.09%
Chlorine content limit. <0.005% vs 0.015%
Pour Point requirement. -36C vs ???
MS-11106 has stricter limits on Foam Tendencies tests ???
MS-11106 has an additional ASTM D6335 test for High Temp Deposits 30mg max
MS-11106 has an additional ASTM D7097 test for Medium High Temperature Deposits(TEOST) 25mg max

This is pretty much along the lines that the nulon response stated.

Yes. Thanks for posting that. Here is what was posted on BITOG when I asked.

3. MS-11106 has a lower Pour Point requirement.
4. MS-11106 has stricter limits on Foam Tendencies tests.
5. MS-11106 only allows Xw-30 grade oils.
6. MS-11106 has an additional ASTM D6335 test for High Temp Deposits.
7. MS-11106 has an additional ASTM D7097 test for Medium High Temperature Deposits(TEOST).
Hence my use of oil that meets MS-11106 only.

The dealer has the Pennzoil Platinum Ultra Euro L for $6.88/qt, so it's an easy decision.

Re: CRD oil on special

The decision isn't so easy here is Australia, most dealers don't stock MS11106 compliant oil, but will use MB229.51 compliant oil. You can provide your own but I'm not so sure it's really necessary.

That is really hard for me to understand why the dealers aren't required to stock the correct oil. That's really shitty.
How would that work for warranty if your DPF clogged or some other engine problem came up and you weren't using the correct spec oil? Maybe it isn't a problem in Aus, but I'm sure it would be a fight here in the States.

Yep, we've had lots of issues with dpfs failing to regen here in Oz, at one point the dealers were blaming the quality of diesel, and then they thought the oil level was too high. But none complained about what spec oil was being used.

Apparently the dealers have been given the OK to use MB229.51 spec oil by Jeep Australia (although no written evidence of this), and looking at the manual I don't see that it specifies we MUST use MS11106 cert oil.

It's certainly a big grey area.

It's a bit of a worry. That Total oil gets a big tick for ACEA C2 but unfortunately the VM Motori requires C3.

Total and Liqui Moly

I think this would be a better oil.
Total-EngineOils | Quartz INEO Long Life 5W30

A few days ago I asked Total if it meets MS-11106, but they haven't replied yet.

I'm pretty sure that Liqui Moly is available in Aus, right?

I was told by Liqui Moly that their TopTec 4200 and a few others meet MS-11106.

"Dear Mr Lance,

after consulting with our laboratory, we can conform, that our engine oils Top Tec 4200, 4600, 4400, 4605 and Longtime High Tech fulfill the Chrysler MS 11106 specification. We also linked this specification with the mentioned oils (see attached file).

With the next update of the oil guide this linkage will be public.
We also check, if this specification is worthwile to request.

Have a nice day!!
