I will possibly order some OEM filters from the US again just to stop the dealer from saying it is not OEM during the warranty period.

Update: Just checked the oil filter price seems to have sky rocketed in the US, the rrp is 60usd each.....

I have seem some aftermarket activated carbon cabin filters for the WK2 in the US also I am looking at getting a few of those while I am over there.
The Mopar filters are made by the Italian filter manufacturer Ufi Filters spa. They operate a plant in China where the filters for the CRD are made.

And probably made for about $5...... Or less!

There are all sorts of protections under Australian law re servicing and parts.

It's VERY difficult for a manufacturer to deny warranty because the car is serviced elsewhere, or non genuine filters etc are used.

Re: CRD oil on special

Hello, I have purchased Nulon 5w30 Euro spec that meets mb220.5 plus Vw 507 for diesel.
It cost $125 for 10 litres at autobahn.
I hope it is ok, it says low ash and suits particulate filters.
I think my grand Cherokee has the Fiat A630 engine - I can't find where it says which V6 it is, as the 2012 came out with the merc V6 in the same year. Does anyone know where to find which engine is fitted please?

All WK2 (2011+) Grand Cherokee diesels have the Italian VM Motori 3L V6 CRD turbo diesel and a wonderful engine it is too. It is designated A630 as you state and yes, VM Motori is currently wholly owned by Fiat Chrysler. There were Merc V6's in pre 2011 Grand Cherokees.

Re: CRD oil on special

Hey thanks Bob, good to know. I am amazed at the performance of the A630, yet is uses so little fuel. I drove from Sydney to Tasmania on one tank, averaged 8.7 litres per 100 km.
The Nulon Euro 5w30 has a lower ash percentage than the diesel 5w30 that Nulon recommend for my Jeep so I'll use the Euro.
Best car I've ever driven.

Don't you mean you drove from Sydney to Melbourne? I assume the ship did the stretch from melb to Tassie.

Yes I'm continually amased by it's economy yet with heaps of torque. I've just driven from Sydney to SA and back via Mungo NP towing a camper trailer. It did about 10.2 l/100km there and 9.2 coming back if one can believe the readout on the dash. I have a lot of armour on the car but also the Bluespark tuning module set at max torque. It has so much torque it easily got up to 150 mph to zip around B-doubles.

Regarding oil, I still favour Mobile 1 ESP Formula 5W30. The Nulon is considerably cheaper but claims to "meet or exceed" rather "approved to" manufacturer's specification. The first is in the opinion of the oil manufacturer whereas the second is approved by the car manufacturer. So if you trust Nulon's claims then go for it. I'm not so trusting.

Talking Re: CRD oil on special

Mm mm, good point re oil claims, Nulon claim 0.618 sulphate ash % but I'll check out the Mobil as I still have the receipt & 5,000 km before the next oil change, thanks.
I reckon the fuel usage indicator is pretty close according to my calculations.

Yes I did put the Jeep on the ferry, had the best time with a bunch of musicians and crew on deck 9, (not much sleep) then drove another 2 hours in Tassie. Maybe if I had a big snorkel.....

I think Mobil1 is similar 0.6%

These seem to be the main difference with the MS-11106 standard over MB229.51:
ASTM D6335 test for High Temp Deposits 30mg max
ASTM D7097 test for Medium High Temperature

Nulon seem to claim that their SYNTHETIC 5W-30 DIESEL FORMULA LONG LIFE ENGINE OIL meets the additional specs, but they haven't got approval, so we are taking them at their word somewhat.

Re: CRD oil on special

Have been using the Nulon since new and have 82k on the clock now. I get 8.4 L/ 100k and towing a 2 t van average 14 l/ 100k. I always buy the 10lt container for around $85 at Supercheap when it is on special and what is left over from the service gets stored so by the third service I usually have enough so it is like a freebie. I need to think about supplying my own filters too as that would be another big saving👍
