So, even though previously I've never been a fan of Mobil, that has changed now. Plus it meets ALL specs.
Swampy, are you absolutely sure the improvement is not just psychological like how you car runs better after you wash it? If you are right and it's a real improvement, I'm changing oil right away never mind the kms.

No I don't think it is just psychological. There certainly is a difference however some people are more "in tune" with how their car is running more so than others. Therefore some people would probably not notice any difference.

I wouldn't rush out and change your oil just for that, just try it next service, and as the services are every 10,000kms, that interval comes around pretty quick.

Okay so how much are you paying for your Mobil 1? I used to use Mobil 1 years ago but have been using Royal Purple in my petrols since 03. Be intersting to know what the dealers use, it'll be the cheapest oil that they can get to meet the specs I'd say.

$283.14 for a 20 litre pail. That's in Perth, maybe cheaper in the Eastern States.

That compares very well with the $75 for 5l containers I paid at Repco and Supercheap for the old formulation Shell Ultra Extra.

The last service I got done was at Scderia Veloce Motors, Artarmon (Sydney). The service was relatively cheap at $425.52. They used Havoline Fully Synthetic C3 5W-30. Havoline is Caltex's oil label. Caltex literature nominates this as the correct oil for the WK2s. However, while it is 5w-30 and C3, it is not either MS-11106 or MB 229.51 but it is approved to MB 229.31. I had a slight argument with the servicing manager where I claimed that this does not strictly comply with the Jeep manual. He claimed that Jeep had advised them that the oil is suitable. I left it at that and contacted Caltex Lubelink.
Their reply was,
"We are advised by a firm of specialist engineers in Melbourne as to what the oil specification and viscosity requirements are for vehicles marketed in Australia (the same firm advises most of the Oil Companies in Australia). Their advice to us is that our Havoline Fully Synthetic C3 5w-30 meets Chrysler requirement of a 5w-30 engine oil, which meeting ACEA C3 specification. They do not make the proviso that the oil also meets Mercedes Benz 229.51. So, all I can add, is that as the recommendation is on our public web-site, then Caltex will stand behind that recommendation if any problem occurs due to the performance of the Havoline Fully Synthetic C3 5w-30."
I have since noticed that Caltex have reformulated Havoline Fully Synthetic C3 5w-30 and now claim that it meets MB 229.51 with approval pending. So on the assumption that it gets approved, here is another fully compliant oil. It costs $74.95/5L on eBay.

Re: CRD oil on special

Another option if you dont mind buying bulk is Gulf Western Euro Energy 5W-30. It's available in 20L and 205L containers.

Gulf Western Oil

The 20L drum is about $155, while the 205L (around 24 oil changes) is about $1300.

Looks like places that support machinery and hydraulic plant are more likely to supply Gulf Western products, however I also notice that Repco advertise some of their products so they might be able to get it in.

Re: CRD oil on special

One maybe cynical reason for this is that Chrysler will not make their own oil and contract anything in a Chrysler bottle to one of the Major oil companies. These companies will often use exactly the same product as one of their own just labeled in the manufacturers own bottle.
Perhaps Shell is currently making the Chrysler oil and do not want to compete against a major customer.

No that wouldn't happen
