Ally,

Go to GL lubricants at Regents Park

$13 per litre = $260 for 20 litres. You can pickup from the warehouse or have it posted. They charge $30 for 20lt - less for smaller quantities.

Thanks. I got 20ltrs for $260. @ $13 per ltr.
Only problem with GL is the delivery. No matter how many times I gave them delivery instructions, they screwed it up. I ended up collecting myself.

Re: CRD oil on special

My dealer used CASTROL EDGE PROFESSIONAL LONGLIFE III 5W-30.
Castrol Australia - EDGE Professional Range

He advised this pretty much the best you can use and whilst I rarely take a dealer's word for it, after speaking to Castrol and reading up I would have to say he is not far wrong. At $22/L (trade price) I should almost expect another 20kW..

I would have no hesitation using this oil however I just bought 9L of Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 from GL Lubricants for $14/L (previously $13/L). GL Lubricants sell cash only, no receipt, wink wink nudge nudge, but it seems genuine by the look of the 1L bottles and no seals were broken. While the Castrol is recommended for MB 229.51, the Mobil claims to be actually approved to MB 229.51 which, to me at least, is a little more reassuring.

You can use a credit card via PayPal. Just ring them and get them to send you an invoice via PayPal. You can do this for pick ups if you'd rather use a card than cash.

Does anyone know which oils meet these requirements??
An observation. Fiat took 100% ownership of VM Motori in October 2013. (Was 50/50 with Fiat and GM) so it does not surprise me that Fiat oil specs have appeared in the owners manual. Just as it doesn't surprise me that there used to be Mercedes oil specs in thee earlier manual as older model Jeeps used Mercedes engines.

I also note (from Google research) that Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30 as sold in Europe, is stated to meet or exceed the following specifications: ACEA A3, ACEA B3, ACEA B4, ACEA C2, ACEA C3. And Vehicle Manufacturer Standards: BMW Longlife 04, MB 229.51, MB 229.31, VW 504.0, VW 507.0, Chrysler MS-11106, Fiat 9.55535-S1, and Porsche C30.

At 25 Euro for 5 litres.

Now if Shell Australia could be convinced to sell THAT formulation here ....

Go back to page 1 of this thread for the story on the Shell Helix Ultra Extra.
This oil in 2011 did meet those specifications.
In 2012 Shell changed the formulation and the explanation is in this thread.

Unfortunately in this age of Google, where we can access incredible amounts of information, unfortunately not all of it is correct.

i find it irresponsible of Shell that incorrect information is STILL posted on their websites. Numerous emails to Shell TS Melbourne have elicited NO response - I think I'm in their bad books - not that it worries me.
Us consumers are not even a flea on the back of that elephant.
I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole.

Mobil 1 Formula ESP 5W30 is the only oil, myself and lots of others have found available in Australia that states it complies with MS11106.
Its the oil I buy and supply to my dealer.

John47,

I have read from page 1 thanks.

That is why I clearly stated the Formulation of the Shell Helix Ultra Extra as sold in Europe.

I guess I should have put some other info in my post.

There are three versions of the VM Motori 3.0 Litre V6 engine.

- The (177 kW) L630 designed to meet North American emissions standards.
- The (184 kW) A630 designed to meet Euro5b/+ emission standards.
- The (202 kW) A630 High Power that meets Euro 5+.

As Australia adopted the Euro5 emissions standards in November 2013 (Vehicle Emission Standards)

I believe pre MY2014 vehicles were fitted with the L630 and now all MY2014 series vehicles are fitted with the A630.

This makes me believe that perhaps the engine oil needs to be of a different formulation for MY2014 vehicles in order to meet the new emissions standards.

Europe has the Shell Helix Ultra Extra formulation required to meet both the pre MY2014 (L630) standards (MB 229.51, MB 229.31, and Chrysler MS-11106) and the post MY2014 (A630) standards ( Chrysler MS-11106, Fiat 9.55535-S1)

I note that you state that "i find it irresponsible of Shell that incorrect information is STILL posted on their websites" yet I went here (Shell Helix Ultra Extra - Australia) earlier today and just now and there is no mention of (the Australian Formulation) meeting or exceeding or approved to standard MS-11106 if that is to what you refer as incorrect information.

Having said all that, if we are now going on website claims, Mobil 1 Formula ESP 5W30 is the only oil to claim it is approved to MS-11106. Lets hope that isn't an erroneous claim and incorrect information!

Re: CRD oil on special

You'll note from my earlier posts that I did comment that the Chrysler standard had just disappeared from the Autralia site in late 2012, around the time I started enquiring.
In my early on telephone calls I got all sorts of conflicting information - until finally i was told that this was an imported product and that Shell had changed the formula and the oil could no longer claim a number of approvals.
When I wanted the information in writing all they would give me is what I posted.
My point I wanted to get across to Shell was that if people were doing research just as you are, that conflicting information was available across websites - and that a wrong conclusion could be drawn.
You can see I now don't trust the product. i don't believe they have a different Helix Ultra Extra product for Europe than the same named item imported to Australia.

Just as an aside, the Mobil oil that I buy is produced in France, and the container has the MS11106 approval on the label.
I'm happy with that.
John

Re: CRD oil on special

Shell in Australia are a bit all over the shop in regard to product data.

Below is the link to Shell Australia Product Data 2013 that shows Shell Helix Ultra Extra having all the right approvals including MS-11106 and even the newly referenced Fiat Spec 9.55535 S1.

However I have lost confidence in what they are doing. Plus in my humble opinion the Jeep actually runs better on the Mobil 1 ESP plus it doesn't seem to do the DPF burn offs as often either. Maybe because, from memory, the Mobil has 25% less Ash than the Shell.
