Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

^^ ima gonna check that.
What I would love to see (in this day) is a cam that connects to a nice SSD and records more than 64GB separately than the onboard flash. Damn the thing gets hot.
My 650 looks sleek and does an okay job as Snuke mentions but left on heats up like a bitch..well on heat.

It'll be great to have an onboard SSD drive located somewhere to stream or cable data too from the device.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

I have never touched it after being on for a while, hadn't thought of it getting hot. Get in, turn car on, get someone turn car off, never think of cameras.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Same usually but since the FW upgrade I went to switch on wifi and it was hot as. Thought it might be due to being black and out in the sun but this was under the shade.
Funny though as it went in to the shop for some tsb update, I noticed the plugs pulled out of the 650 front dash unit.

I reckon a lot of places will be asking that they are disabled... or it'll just mysteriously happen. It could be an interesting collision of wills!

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

If they are not doing anything they shouldn't be doing then they should not have any problem with the cameras

I would want to know what they are scared of or trying to hide if someone demanded it be unplugged or if they themselves unplugged the unit?
And I would also be thinking twice about giving them more business

If it's work related then I have no issue being watched or scrutinized. Which is often the case working in IT or least with my job. Gives the customers reassurances that A. You know what you are doing and B. That you're not doing anything you shouldn't be doing. That's just me and is what I'd expect of others.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Personally have nothing to hide, I do my job and I am open and honest with our clients - therefore I would not have a problem!

Could probably even say that I would be happy to be recorded, that way the footage would also back up my version of what happened

There aren't too many places theses days that are not covered by security cameras. 99% of the footage never even gets looked at, its only when something happens the footage maybe reviewed to try and determine Who, What, How and Why.

Have had the dash cam in the car ever since it was fixed and I started driving it, the only footage I have ever looked looked at and kept is when we have been off road

And lets face the fact that the only reason dash cams (And other recording devices) are now even needed, and that is because some people are happy to bend the truth instead of doing the decent thing and owning up to mistakes or actually doing what they are meant to be doing!

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Personally I have no issue and fully understand if they were disable the recording while working on the car. It is on private property, they have not consented to be recorded by the vehicle owner. It is one thing to have your work places security cameras, it is another to have a private person recording your actions and taking that video home with them to with what they like.
This is coming from someone who did actively partially record their actions, and will do so again in two weeks. I want to see what they are doing, but I understand if they feel that is a violation of their privacy.
They should be plugging the power cable back in when finished though.

My head hurts now.

I'm worried about batteries overheating. I think that I probably need to accept having to take any camera out of the car in Perth's heat anyway... not that this is very convenient. Unfortunately one of our cars ends up being in the sun when we're both at home.

Cheers,
Steve
