Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

That is why I only browsed that thread, came across it after I purchased the 650 anyway. What were the good suggestions that came from that?

WP member Thrillhouse (his pics put me onto the Blackvue) is in Perth and has reported bak with any issues. His original install post here - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...8891#r42048891

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

From dredging the thread, I gathered there's a fair bit of love for some of the cheaper options.

- The 0805 Mini has impressive imagery for its price of around $130 with GPS. A drawback appears to be heat resilience and the mount on previous versions. Not much info on this current update.

- The G1W does well at a very low price point, and the G1W-C has a capacitor instead of a battery so heat accumulation isn't such a problem. They look a bit obvious, which could be good or bad depending on your views.

There are obviously better models such as the Blackvue, VicoVation and Lukas, however it was very interesting to see what kind of result you could get for $100+/-20. Hence I'm confused...

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

I had a G1W, great prices available on ebay, however mine was older chip model, so I had lots of probelms. It's cheap, great video and cheap, everything about it feels super cheap. Not sure how out of the way you could make it with the bracket though.
Just watched a night video with the 0805 Mini, very good video quality.

Now that I have a solid connection with the 650 and the app, I will see what it's like to monitor the horse in the float tomorrow when were driving.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

A question for you guys out there with dash cams. Do you hard wire them in and if yes, is it something you can do yourself or do you need an auto electrician? I'm not after anything fancy, I quite like the look of the Mini 0805.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

There are lots of reports of the Mini 0805 overheating.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

I should be pleased that my eBay offer for two of them was not accepted then!

Just when I thought I'd made a decision...

Yeah, I believe that was the case with the earlier versions but I'm sure I read somewhere the latest versions were improved in that respect.

I will probably go ahead and get one but I was more interested in the hard wiring of it.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

You don't need an auto electrician. Obviously you need a degree of base level understanding, however all the information is here or would be provided upon receipt of a specific question.

Are you able to splice and solder wiring?

Have done a bit of that round the house, not automotive, but I imagine it's the same.

I do have to see my local auto electrician about caravan wiring so I could kill 2 birds then.
