Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

my DR500GW came in handy over the long weekend. after hearing a a few stories i decided to check for myself. my camera is running 24/7 with park mode activated but movement sensor off.
i parked my car at jetport valet airport parking, i paid for undercover parking from friday until tues. upon returning home i reviewed the footage. within 20min of me vacating my car it was moved to an outdoor gravel carpark, it stayed there until late sunday afternoon when they decided to move it. the indian driver spent 5min on his phone in the car sitting on the washpad whilst another dragged the hose over the bonnet washing the dust off it. he then decided to rev the car several times whilst his mate smiled and laughed. he then parked it indoors. the car was then moved again on the tues to another indoor park for my collection late on tues night.
i contacted management and this is the response.

Hi Corey,
I have received the footage with no sound. I take your word on the series of events. I am holding a review with all parkers individually today. We will be discussing the way we hose vehicles and my main objective will be to ingrain the culture of ' caring '. We pride ourselves on being the best in our field in caring for our customers and their vehicles. I have investigated the movements of your vehicle and I have terminated the employment of the parker driving the vehicle on the phone. I have issued a written warning to the parker who originally parked the vehicle outside and I have issued another written warning to the parker that hosed your vehicle (the parker that hosed it was not the parker who moved it) .
I apologize again and would like to offer you 50%off your next stay. I can assure you this is an isolated event (we move over 600 vehicles a day) and we are currently reviewing our training systems and procedures. Please let me know next time if you would like to park with us again.
Have a great day.

Wow thats terrible!

W/R to your DR500, was it just facing out the front window?

How do you have it wired in to your car?

I am really keen to get one, but dont want cables running down the A pillar for power.

Well that certainly shows the value of your camera. You can't help but be a bit sceptical about the claim that it was "an isolated event". I can't imagine there'd be a lot of vehicles with cameras able to capture that sort of incident. In the pep talk the parkers have probably been told to be wary of dashcams. Maybe that's a bit cynical but....

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Like it.
The meeting probably went something like.
"You dumbass employees. Don't you realise the camera was filming you? Why didn't you use the standard indoor background prop as outlined in the training manual 101, and dragged the hose over the roof, like I showed you, not the hood."

Art you not concerned about draining the battery, especially leaving it for that long?
I know nothing about the electrics, and what is too much of a strain, so a genuine question as to what the negatives could be without the Power Magic Pro.

I run mine on constant supply, vehicle under a carport so it records all movement etc especially when windy and have not started it for 4 days on one occasion. The drain is minimal and even less inside a garage.

The current draw is very minimal and my car is driven daily. I did the above as a test to see what goes on in the carpark. I did prepare myself leaving a jump pack in the rear. I guess i also found i can leave my car this way for atleast 4days not needing the power magic pro. So i guess i arent concerened snuke

Totally agree however i turned the movement off as to stop the constant park files whilst at work from tree movement. In a locked garage you don't have that issue.

I leave mine on as I have troubles from neighbour across the road with vandalism, though since I have informed him that I have a camera on board he has crawled back into his hole

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

I hadn't touched my unit in ages. After it went in for its last service I looked at a lot of the footage. There were a lot of recording errors, so many minutes missed. I formatted the card again and it has been fine. Blackvue do suggest formatting every two weeks, guess I will do it more often than every 6 months.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Interesting information Snuke. You'd be pissed if you pulled your card after an accident and the incident wasn't captured!

After deliberating for far too long, I am now waiting on my 0806 Mini to land. Will report on arrival.

Cheers,
Steve
