Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

It'll be formatted ExFAT, and Windows will not format it to FAT. I tried using the Command Line and after taking hours it spat the dummy. Chase up a suitable tool online... I used fat32format.exe, but I'm sure that there are others.

If you use a Mac... I dunno. Maybe suffer in silence? 😄

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Has anyone seen or got an easy how-to guide to hardwire a dash cam into our Jeeps? I've got a Mini 0806 on the way.

Nope, if you use a Mac, then you can format FAT32 on anything with the standard Disk Utility, no messing about required. Macs only struggle with NTFS, in which case you use a program called Tuxera or similar.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

OK, now that everyone has forgotten about this one thing Macs do better than PC's...

Here's a micro SD card deal:
http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/pro...=414865&n=3313

Yes, I'll get around to dredging some footage off my Mini 0806... it should be better now I've removed the protective plastic film from the lens.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Sneaky farks. Shopping Square seem to have local products as well as "grey" items like this. I didn't pick it, but as per the linked thread this is shipped from OS and has seriously reduced warranty. The shipping costs stuff the deal anyway.

So nothing to see here... please move along.

I'll leave the deal posting to Snuke in the future

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've been in this thread. I finally ordered a Blackvue 650 (front and rear). I'm curious though, the standard 16gb SD card they come with, are those sufficient read/write speed? I don't need days of storage, as I'll use mine just if something happens and gets captured, so I'm not concerned with the limited storage (assuming it will record a day or two?). I just want to make sure I'll be getting the best possibly recorded quality.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

16GB will give about 3hrs of recording at the highest quality setting. Reality is, you shouldn't be using anything lower than the highest settings as the results will be crap. As they have supplied the card to work with it, it should be fine.

There is new firmware for the 650 released on the 27th:

BlackVue DR650GW-2CH English firmware v1.007

Someone has hacked the firmware to allow for higher bitrate recordings. The biggest issue with the Blackvues is that their bitrate is too low, so you don't end up with the detail that is possible.
Here is the thread, I have only just started to read it - https://forum.dashcamtalk.com/thread...firmware.9423/

Isn't ExFAT a Microsoft file system optimized for flash drives?

Shouldn't it just work on a Microsoft and Mac system just fine as long as you format it in a windows based system.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

No, OS X is HFS Plus.
exFat is the Microsoft system to attempt to allow larger than 4GB files (the FAT32 limit) onto systems & hardware that require FAT32 instead of NTFS.
I say attempt, because it is not fool proof. It works a lot of the time, but not always.

Use the exFAT File System and Never Format Your External Drive Again
