Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

That is a myopic article at best, so as per the norm for a Gawker publication.
Nice of them to post spoilers to current news/sports events on the side of the page too.

exFat can be very handy to get you out of trouble, but it is by no means an ultimate solution, nor would I ever suggest someone use that as the basis for all their drives. There are too many times it simply doesn't not work for the intended purpose to be recommended in the fashion that article does.
It is best used when all else fails.

While parked???? Isn't that immediate loss of license for the driver?

There is new firmware for the 650 released on the 27th:

BlackVue DR650GW-2CH English firmware v1.007

Someone has hacked the firmware to allow for higher bitrate recordings. The biggest issue with the Blackvues is that their bitrate is too low, so you don't end up with the detail that is possible.
Here is the thread, I have only just started to read it - https://forum.dashcamtalk.com/thread...firmware.9423/

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Can anyone tell me what fuses you guys are using for the hardwired kits? I'm wanting to pick up and use a "add-a-fuse" kit as well, so I'd like to know the size of the fuse (ATO, mini, low-profile mini), and which fuse to hook it up too.

I'll be hardwiring with the Multi-Safer, have any of you routed the wires from the fuse box through the firewall? If so, do you have any pictures?

Thanks

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

I will be running my power from the mirror. I am not really after a parking camera, so I do not need to power it when the motor is off.
When I get around to the install I will take pics and post up a how to.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

That seems more difficult than just using the 12v in the center console, no?

I guess I'll figure mine out and post a how-to for hardwiring. Can't believe no one has done it yet.

I also picked up a Sandisk "High Endurance" 64gb class 10 sd card. They are allegedly designed specifically for video recording and dashcams, and are said to last 10,000+ hours.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Nobody has probably bothered doing it because its easier to grab the power source in the dash. The jeep only has two hard to access grommets through the firewall.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

How do you have it hardwired using the dash? I thought you had to hook up the multi safer/PMP to the fuse box on a ground, ACC, and no-power fuse?

I'm setting mine up with the park mode, so it'll run when it detects motion and turn on/off when the car is on/off.
