Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Careful if you choose to update as you will then need the new blackvue c app. To be honest i dont like it its alot harder to navigate around and in a total different format. Not happy..

Nice, how did you wire it up? Hardwired?

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Nah it uses micro usb, so I got a long usb cable that goes through the plastic bit into the camera around the roof lining down the pillar under the seat and carpet and plugged into the rear USB ports

It's simple and easy, maybe one day in the future I'll wire it into something

But I like it like this as after I exit the vehicle the power stays on for 10min

And I can easily plug in the usb power bank for when I want to leave it and have the camera running for hours

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Had a 39 degree day here and I forgot that I'd left my Mini 0806 on the windscreen and my car in full sun all day. That evening it wouldn't stay on. I turned the "auto power off" setting to off and it worked OK. However now I find it sometimes won't detect the uSD card and I have to reinsert it. I'd try the second uSD slot, but it's now inaccessible due to the case having distorted in the heat.

Don't like my chances of warranty.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Clearly no warranty on that, no issue that I'm aware on the 650 from Fridays 40 degree heat.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Well "clearly" would suggest that there was specific reference to the case melting at a certain temperature. The instructions only list a range of "operating temperatures", and it was definitely not operating at the time. Also mentioned in the user guide is that high temperatures may shorten the life of electronic devices, but it doesn't go as far to say that this particular one melts and is immediately inoperable! Nothing else in the car melted either...

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

This is the part that will do you in, and it sucks because the reality is that 40 degree days will be common around the world. So having temps far higher than that which is what you get in an unattended (no AC) car is pretty normal. So if it 39C outside, it would be easily 50C+ in the car

Do not expose the dash camera to high temperatures.
The normal operating temperature of the dash camera is 0 C to 40 C (32F to 104F)
High temperatures can shorten the life span of electronic device, and extremely high temperature will shorten the battery and/or degrade the plastic components. Note extreme temperatures can be achieved in parked cars in direct sunlight.
Expose the dash camera to strong sunlight when using Motion Detection mode may cause the dash camera to malfunction or become damaged as the temperature can be too high in your car in summer.

One cool thing I saw about the Mini 0806 is that they offer custom firmware to give you a higher bitrate in the recording. Some Russian guy offers it for the Blackvue, I did mean to chase that up.

The Blackvue covers 0-60C, but that still sucks to for winter areas. Plenty of places in the world are sub zero for long periods of time. Russia, the home of the dash cam is a block of ice for ages.

To get full functionality of the new app and firmware the 650 has to be a min of March 2015 build. To check email your serial and original SSID to cs@pittasoft.com

I purchased a newer Mini 0826 hoping they sorted out the "cooking" issue. I had the same thing happen last weekend. The unit was sitting in the sun and warped. Now the focus is slightly off and sometimes the memory card cannot be read.

The China supplier offered a partial rebate

This seems to be a common issue with the Mini series of dash cams.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Save me Googling guys... has anyone seen a better deal than this for the Blackvue 650 lately? I might grab one if the price is as competitive as I think it might be.
