Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Hey I have a random question, why are dash cams so big in Australia, Europe, Russia and others but in the US people for the most part do not care about them? Is it fear of corrupt law enforcement, lots of hit and run incidents, concern for law suits in accidents, or what ? just trying to learn and understand what the difference is that makes people want them more over there but not as much here? Thanks

I know they make a point of saying the 600/650 has a higher bit rate, maybe it was an issue. Looking at all the videos on youtube, i couldn't see problems.

They are big in Russia, because they stage crashes or just jump in front on cars and get hit. There is a law in Russia that if you injure someone, you have to pay them for the rest of their lives.

Have a look at some of the compilations of crashcam video of people running in front of cars with cameras to try to be hit. The driver will get out an beat up people trying to get injured.

As for the rest of the world, people can make good money if they capture something remarkable on camera, like the 747 crash or the meteorite vision.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

I spent most of last month in the USA driving over 2500miles with my family. I bought a relatively cheap Navman camera for our hire car, principally to record some of the more spectacular scenery we drove through, but also to cover myself with the rental company if I was involved in an accident that wasn't my fault, but was unable to prove it. With the camera, I would be able to. Piece of mind really.
That's why I have had one permanently in my last 2 cars for 4 years now.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

So no love from my mate, however Funket have a great deal. Get the 600 or 650 and it will include the Power Magic Pro kit (Worth $59). This is a timer device so it the dash cam can still keep recording after you power off the car. You can set it to turn off at a certain voltage point to protect the battery. They also have $10 off with a Facebook like coupon code and there is a $0.00 freight option.

Funket | Online Shopping Blackvue - Clearance | Dashcam | Bluetooth | Gadget | Australia Online Shop

This is official Aus stock, deal runs until the end of August.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

For those considering one and using the Power Magic Pro, when I first bought my current it came with that ability as well. Thought it was a great idea and installed it that way, so it was constantly recording when parked. It took me a couple of weeks to realise that it recorded 8 hours of my garage door every night and if there was any footage you wanted to keep, then if you didn't download it off the memory card that night, then by the morning it has been overwritten.
I then re wired it to only work when ignition is on, thereby giving me a couple of days footage before being overwritten, just in case.

I was under the impression that they had a "park mode" which only activated the camera for a short period when movement was detected or with the "G-Sensor"?

Correct, parking mode will only record when there is a knock or movement then it will stop recording. The Power Magic Pro only keeps power up to the dashcam for however long you set it for or shuts down when the battery voltage is getting generally 11.8v or 12v.

Re: Dash Cams - Down Under

Don't you need a car to fit them to?

Sorry mate, that was nasty and uncalled for.

My 650 arrived, I will install it tomorrow, or at least attempt to.
