Re: Dealer Fitted Mopar Rock Rails

That's weird, the Mopar link I showed in my last post has stopped working. Here is a link that shows both rock rails side by side, 2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rock Rails . It seems to me that the Trailhawk rock rails are just the standard rock rails minus the tubular bit, or, the rock rails you're having when you are not having rock rails. At least it provides solid rocker protection.

I think I'll get the original version , I like a bit of a step although I understand there isn't much room to step on..

Re: Dealer Fitted Mopar Rock Rails

Hi guys,

I know this is an old post, but on reading the last comment, thought you could help. With regards to the use of rock rails as a side step, particularly for the wife (5'4" tall) would this be okay? The tech at ATV AUTOMOTIVE in Sydney said that it might be unacceptable as an actual step.

Ideally I'd like to get the mrs to try entering a jgc with rails to see that it is better than without.

Cheers for the help.
Paul

Re: Dealer Fitted Mopar Rock Rails

Well the rails are a tube, so if she is wearing heels or something not so stable it could end in tears. If she is wearing boots then not a problem.

Not sure if you have quadra-lift, but with it in park mode we don't need a step.

Re: Dealer Fitted Mopar Rock Rails

I had the dealer fit the mopar rock rails
Big mistake

They have had 3 attempts to fit them correctly and i still do not believe they are fitted right.
But getting them to try again would be pointless

Fit them your self and be sure

Re: Dealer Fitted Mopar Rock Rails

Yep, mine are still on the garage floor waiting to be bolted on, but I'd rather do it myself and be happy with the end result. Just need to be aware that from reports the holes don't always line up, you need to be patient....

Re: Dealer Fitted Mopar Rock Rails

Should be fun! Really want to get them on soon, but I'm guessing I might need a couple days when I'm not driving it.

Re: Dealer Fitted Mopar Rock Rails

There are plenty of helpful guides on U tub and other forum areas step by step guides that will alert you to issues they had and how they addressed them
Most say the fist side takes up to 6 hours but the second much less
But all say take your time
Good luck

Definitely go for it. I had side-steps. They lasted one off-road outing then into the bin. I now have the rock-rails. Surprising as it might seem, both my wife with her hip problem and my 91year old mother, prefer the rock-rails. They both felt insecure on the flimsy side-steps but the rock-rails feel solid as a rock. The side-steps have a tread that appears to be rubber checker-plate. It isn't rubber but hard plastic and can be slippery. I had always thought that I would have to glue some rubber onto the rock-rails but so far I've had no complaints. I think the round tube allows them to angle their feet towards the car slightly giving them far greater security.

As others have said, fit them yourself or use a trusted mechanic. They can be difficult to fit. There is no way dealer mechanics (that's if they are even mechanics) can fit them in the time allowed so they have to take shortcuts.

Re: Dealer Fitted Mopar Rock Rails

Thanks benno,
Yeah have quadralift, but still a preference by her to have a step of some sort to get in. I just don't want to get a standard step as it will crap itself offroad. Also, I'm aware that the rail will widen the base, therefore increasing reaching distance required to fit the 2 & 4 yr olds in their car seats...

Cheers,
Paul
