Re: Does the standard window tint have UV protection

Well I'm already finding at times that vision out the rear is restricted/obscured with the standard tint so as I'm getting it done this Saturday at a professional installers home (friend of a friend) then at this point in time it looks like I may just get legal maximum on fronts, maybe added tint to the sunroof and UV protection allround.

I haven't got a price yet but I'm assured it's good !!! Good to see what others have paid and what I should expect to pay.

The tint on mine is $320 through the dealer for darkest legal all round.

Very interested in the price you end up paying and the recomendations you get from a professional on the % tint. Let me know how you go or PM me. Cheers!

Re: Does the standard window tint have UV protection

I cant find a tint-er that will tint the sunroof.
They all say it could crack the glass.
That's 4 I have tried. One said he would do it if I sign a waiver.

Thanks in advance guys.
All glass protects from UV light...the extent of which depends on the type of glass and how loose the electron bonds are. If it didn't, we'd all have tans from sitting under flourescent lighting! The glass used in automobiles eliminates most of the UV rays...you can't get a sunburn with the windows up...no need for treatment, unless you just want the glass to be darker. If my moonroof didn't filter UV rays adequately, I would definately have a sunburn, ha ha.

UV film I have on mine did not make it any darker.
On the tail gate as soon as the film went on you could feel the difference in heat transfer with the tail gate up. I helped my tinter to place the tint, I like to be hands on and he was a great guy explained everything.

I would challenge that comment can't get burnt through the glass.
I drove road trains for years and got burnt in a newly installed drivers door glass in a Volvo truck before it got tinted.

Re: Does the standard window tint have UV protection

All,

This dealer guide that is linked to in the towbar thread suggests that the factory glass is UVA & UVB filtered, and is listed as sunscreen glass.

I take that as only the Laredo has it as the others have deep tinted glass.

Anyway I went with what the tinter recommended. UV on all rear and UV and tint on front all for $150. He said they don't apply film to sunroofs due to it be laminated.

Drove in and one hour later drove out.

$150 is his set price no matter what the vehicle is. $50 extra if he is replacing tint. So I'll be taking my old car (once I get the hail damage repaired) to him to remove the old and fit the new tint for $200. To me that's a bargain.

Don't know if I can give him a plug on here !!! And although he has a website (just one page) he works solely from word of mouth. So either PM me for more info or let me know if I can post Business name, website or his name and phone number here.

That is a great price, well done. I am sure the forum will not mind you posting the details.

Chaps name is Boyd and his Mobile is 0412 081 213 (also advertised on website)

Website is www.150tint.com as in $150 and like he warned me it is a pretty crappy website (page).
