That's 4 I have tried. One said he would do it if I sign a waiver.
Just got off the phone with my nominated tinter. $250 for all five windows, UV to the existing privacy glass and matching tints to front!. He agrees the UV to the privacy glass cuts an additional 25% heat. He also will not UV protect the sunroof stating it is toughened glass and as the tint film traps some heat it can cause the glass to crack. He will not warrant any work to the sunroof. Better start looking for a Warney hair transplant!

Re: Does the standard window tint have UV protection

I was following a Taxi today.
Lot of them here have advertising on the back window. cant see in but can see out.
Goes on the outside of the glass and has thousand of holes in it, white on the out side.

I am thinking of it in the summer to keep some of the heat out.
With the shade closed, the shade cloth gets real hot, the rest of the roof is cool.

You can get that stuff in nearly any colour as it is a printed film. So you can get black to make it unobtrusive.

Here in Sydney you often see complete bus sides covered with it for advertising.

Anyway I went with what the tinter recommended. UV on all rear and UV and tint on front all for $150. He said they don't apply film to sunroofs due to it be laminated.

Drove in and one hour later drove out.

$150 is his set price no matter what the vehicle is. $50 extra if he is replacing tint. So I'll be taking my old car (once I get the hail damage repaired) to him to remove the old and fit the new tint for $200. To me that's a bargain.

Don't know if I can give him a plug on here !!! And although he has a website (just one page) he works solely from word of mouth. So either PM me for more info or let me know if I can post Business name, website or his name and phone number here.
I can only speak for the U.S. per wk2jeeps.com but all 2011 Grand Cherokee Limiteds and Overlands have LAMINATED FRONT DOOR GLASS. And ALL U.S. 2012 Grand Cherokees (Laredo E and Laredo X included) have LAMINATED FRONT DOOR GLASS. They obviously don't have a problem tinting the fronts, so laminated sunroof as a reason not to tint the sunroof doesn't seem to explain the whole reason they won't tint the sunroof. Maybe because it's a horizontal surface more sunlight is hitting it. I don't know.

Re: Does the standard window tint have UV protection

Dark tints look really cool but if it is just UV protection you want, I wouldn't waste my money on films. Plain glass is pretty good at cutting out UV but most automotive glass seems to have a little something in them anyway so should be even better. Hold a white piece of paper behind the glass and see if you detect a tint. The UV filters I used to have on my film cameras had a barely discernible yellow tinge to them and that was enough.

Hi Bob,
Pick my new car up tomorrow then it is straight in to a recomended tinter for the full works. I asked him this arvo about having the privacy done with UV and he still recomends its the way to go, with a noticable cut down on heat. Trouble is I'm gonna have to wait three months to try it out with winter starting Friday but here's hoping it is a wise investment. (Only $250 for 20% and UV's).......did I mention I pick my car up tomorrow???

Re: Does the standard window tint have UV protection

Congrats Glenn.
While you are at the Dealers, can you ask them if they have any news on the Recovery Hooks. A collegue at work said he got a letter from peter Warren's telling him that the recovery hook is being shipped now to the dealers. Even gave him the part number. Unfortunatley, he was lacking in any really useful information, such as whether free or not..

I head south after work with the sun hitting the drivers side - before tint notice a very mild difference in heat between drivers window up and down. After tint applied I notice a considerable difference BUT the vision out of it at night is affected and affects the vision in the side mirrors when reversing at night. I think what doesn't help that also is the reversing lights are not bright. Anyone else find that?

Don't mean to be pedantic but if you recall your high-school physics, heat is infra-red and at the opposite end of the spectrum to UV so I wouldn't expect a UV film to do much for heat. However, the 20% should be great at cutting down both heat and UV.

I suppose the tinter came to the same conclusion. He has put 20% on the fronts and an extra 35% over the rear privacy glass and tailgate window rather than clear UV. The net effect looks absolutely awesome, You can see out of the rears no problem but it is absolutely impossible to see in through them, even with the interior lights on. He called it similar to Ambulance tint down to 5%. The fronts look almost as dark, but they provide perfect visibility at night. I know the road rules on front window tints but am willing to take the chance for the look.

I once saw a very hot looking car. All black, no chrome, air dam and skirts and very dark windows like yours. The number plate was DVADER.

I'm into "pimping my ride" but the tints are definitely as far as I'm going to go.
Time for me to grow up I'm afraid
