Thought it might be appropriate to seperate the discussions in the W2K Downunder thread relating to building and delivery status. It would give a common perspective for those tracking their cars, and allow the other thread to be used for general discussion for Aussies... and others who have an opinion or question.

How does everyone get there VIN/Customer numbers?

My dealer just says they don't get that info until the car comes in?? is this correct?
What the dealer is telling you "may" be correct, as they seem as dumb as bats when it comes to obtaining vital information about the products they sell and service. Very few of them know good customer relations, beyond accepting your deposit.
However, they would have an Order number. That is a number with "E" in front of it. eg E1234546.
Once you have that number, you can become a contributing member of this forum, and then have the ability to track both the build and delivery of your car. Once the car comes off the production line, you can then obtain a Build Sheet, which will contain the VIN. With the VIN, you can track the car while it is being shipped by sea.
Where you lose tracking is when the car is disembarked at your local port to when it arrives at the dealership.
Depending on quarantine, and customs, this can take between 1-4 additional weeks.

Your dealer needs to look on his computer when he places an order it creates a order number.
Top right corner of his screen.
if he does not have the order number he has not ordered a custom order for you and is hoping on of the pre allocated units fits your needs.
Some dealers are just lazy.

does anyone knows the customer service numbers for sydney? I ordered a WK2 Laredo + off road pkg II + Quadralift on 01/02/2012, and the dealer didn't give me the E.. customer number (Ha gave me another customer number that is meaningless). so far I got nothing, no ETA.

Cheers,
Ordered WK2 Laredo (01/02/2012), Off Road Package II, QuadraLift, Tinted, Maximum steel.

It would appear that the dealer is not being up front with you. If they placed an order, they would have an order number. It generally looks like eg:E123456. This is also known as a VON.
If you are not getting any satisfaction from them, tell them you are going to call Chrysler Aust and ask them to explain why it is so difficult.
If they want to know why it is important to you, tell them that you want confirmation that the car is actually ordered, and you want to be reassured that the dealer is not holding onto the order until they get a batch. Tell them that the waiting period to delivery is already extreme, and you want it not delayed even further.

The Von is a US thing. We have order numbers, the fact that they are the same as a von is lost on most people in the supply chain in oz. I understand the order process to be.

You place order
Dealer puts order in system
Chrysler aust batch them up check them and confirm them
Order placed with jeep in us. At this stage a number (Von or whatever is issued)

This process might take a max of two weeks. 6 weeks on from order you should have a number. Your dealer should give you the number.

I mentioned this to my dealer and he wasn't the slightest bit interested. You are generally a week or two ahead of their system. I was told my car definitely missed a boat but I was tracking it using the vin and could see it on the manifest.

I decided not to push it because I don't want Chrysler Aust complaining and somehow cutting the service off for the majority who can get an order number. Eventually my dealer relented and gave me the order no.

Personally I'd say what was said in a previous post, you want the order number as confirmation the build had actually been ordered. This is not an unreasonable request.

The TALISMAN has just entered Chesapeake Bay and heading upto Baltimore (Curtis Bay).
At this stage it appears that mine, Beerenton and possibly Aldredp's cars will get loaded. That departs 24th. Touch wood, or should it be Touch Hood, the cars will not be bypassed again.

Woo hoo! No more sleeps. I pick up my overland this afternoon. 4 weeks from order to delivery was long enough for me. I certainly admire the patience of those who have waited months for theirs.

Im so excited - No more sleeps for mine as well..! Picking mine up today after 5 months to the day since ordering..!!

Mineral Grey Laredo w/QL, ORAII, Tow Bar, and Rock Rails. Even managed to negotiate Coopers A/T3 tyres..!

Not sure that mine is going to be on the Talisman. I have now been told by dealer that mine in a June delivery instead of April. Not happy
If you pm me your VIN, I can confirm.
If it does miss the Talisman, I am sure it will be on the next boat. That looks like it would be the Aida, which leaves on 7th April. That should still get you a car in May.
