Re: Factory towbar question

John,
I use photobucket to put that photo in.
I haven't done anything else to enable me to do it.

If you need help, PM me and I'll happily show you how.

Re: Factory towbar question

what is the height (from ground to top of tow ball) for factory tow bar for non QL GC?. I want to check if my trail bike trailer will sit flat.

Re: Factory towbar question

My dealer-fit towball is 480mm off the ground, steel-sprung Laredo CRD.

Re: Factory towbar question

If I bought the complete tow package kit as sold by Mopar Aust., how easy would it be to fit and wire myself?

Re: Factory towbar question

It appears to be simply bolt in, and the wiring just plugs in. There is a member on another forum that did this and it all just worked. The CRD has the tow prep package already which simplifies the wiring.

You may need to get the dealer to update the vehicle systems to let it know that there is now a tow package connected. This is in case of canbus issues. Though again, there have been others with no issues at all.

Ours was fitted by the dealer prior to delivery.
If you get the NZ Best Bars Mopar bar (that seems to be the one dealers fit and is on ours) the bumper has to come off and you'll need the trim rivets to replace - but not at all hard.
The harness plugs up somewhere near the LH rear window, so you'll have to pull off a bit of trim to get to it. Main issue you will have is that the vehicle has to be reflashed by the dealer with their software to recognise the additional harness and load for the trailer.
When I researched before delivery I was wanting a Hayman Reese bar but it all got too hard and I went the Mopar way with the dealer.
We've dragged our van 7500k so far with no issues and quite happy. Except the tech in the workshop left the rear recovery hook off....to put it back on the bumper has to be removed again so it is gathering dust in the shed.
Perhaps you could roll under the next WK2 you see with a tow bar and scope it out.

Re: Factory towbar question

Thanks for the advice guys.

Regarding the rear tow hook, my guess is that they leave it off because it becomes redundant with a Hayman Reese type tow bar. One puts the snatch strap loop into the tow bar socket and secure it with the high strength steel pin. In fact this is a better pull point being perfectly central. It has a 3,500 kg rating which is about the same as that of the bow shackles supplier with standard snatch strap kits.
