Hey guys

Had the fault diagnosed as a failed ORC module. Dealership says 4 - 6 weeks to get a replacement. Totally garbage. Can get a replacement through morris4x4 in 10 days

Anyway, emailed Jeep Aus at my displeasure and to clarify if the air bags would function, last thursday 2nd Oct. Havent heard back from them

Can anyone here say one way or the other whether I have airbag protection or not?

Also, anyone have a spare WK2 2014 ORC module lying around?

Edit: Just spoke to a dealership who said the airbags will not function.

Should I,

A. Wait for the part to arrive in the country, another 3 - 5 weeks.

B. Buy the part from morris4x4 and get it installed, and try to get the jeep dealer to reimburse my costs?

What other options do I have at my disposal? I Have already spoken with ACCC, I could speak to the office of fair trading and register a complaint about the safety implications and wait time

You could order the part from overseas yourself, but I am guessing you would have a very hard time finding a dealer who would install it.
Best is to call Chrysler Customer Service and scream blue murder, until they prioritised your part. If they wanted, they could fly it in within 48hrs. They just don't care about you once they have their money.

Agree with Snuke
I was in the same position when they said my Quadra-Lift controller had failed, 6-7 weeks for a replacement to arrive, I called Chrysler Customer Service and asked if this is what I had to look forward to when owning a Jeep - they expedited the part and it was here in 3 week

Maybe a little harder for you if I am reading your post correctly and your new ORC module is already in transit?
But still worth the call to log the issue with Customer Service

In the US no dealer would or legally could allow such a vehicle to leave their lot with federally mandated airbags not working regardless of scenario.

Just look at what's happening to GM when their airbags did not function due to that crazy ignition/big key chain turning off engine recall and they did NOT know they were putting a car with potentially non-functioning airbags on the road.

Yeah I tried to get jeep aus to expedite the process. So far I havent heard anything back from them

The complete story goes:

ORC fails, tried to get it back to the dealer I bought it from, but they told me that cant see it for over a week. So I took it to another dealer. I contacted Jeep at this point to complain about the issue and that my dealer could not fit me in despite the issue relating to air bags. Took it to a different dealer (last Thursday), ORC fault identified, ORC module orders, 4-6 week wait. I email Jeep aus back saying the wait is unacceptable when I can source it myself much faster and I asked as to whether the airbags would function. No Reply. Been a week since I emailed them.

So today I rang ACCC to find out my options, Then called my dealer and asked the service foreman if my airbags would deploy. They will not.

So now Im driving around in a car which does not comply with ADR73, stuck in a bind. Either I say nothing and continue to drive and wait for the module. Or I can buy the module and have jeep dealer fit it, at my own expense.

At no time was I offered a loan vehicle, at no time did anyone express concern or reservation about the operation of the airbags.

My own dealer failed to return a call to me about a possible time. This whole situation seems like no one from jeep/dealership really gives a **** and it has pissed me off no end. The ****ing car has no airbags. They know and do not care

If Cheap are not going to keep these parts locally, then they should bloody well fly them in. This is the major thing which pisses me off with "the product", which unfortunately must include support issues.

How much is the module from the US including freight?

I was thinking... how can we molest the dealer in question when our Garage mates are getting stalled for parts. How about we flood the service department phones with calls? It's not abuse of a communications system if we all only call once!

$US 211 from Morris 4x4. Not sure about freight, couldnt give me a quote until I placed the order.

To buy from a dealer here in Aus...... $700 dollars.

So, I could theoretically spend 400 dollars on freight and still be better off than buying in Australia. What is wrong with this country?

Update: Jeep Aust cant tell me when the part will arrive, its on backorder and they have no ETA in melbourne. So apparently the 4 - 6 weeks I was quoted is garbage. **** yeah!

Oh yeah, they also said that the jeep dealership wont install any part I supply, so it doesnt matter that its a genuine mopar item, it doesnt matter that I can have the unit here in 5 days compared to say.... oh never, it doesnt matter Im driving around in a car that has no functioning airbags.

Had enough. Rang dealer to escalate this to general manager and dealer principal. Driving one of their cars with no airbags. See if this gives then cause for concern. Got a jeep sitting on the docks? pull the ****ing ORC out of it and put it in mine. I no longer give ****s as to how this gets sorted but it better get sorted real quick like.

Next stop is fair trading

You need to get the parts unavailability, lack of ETA, etc confirmed in writing. If the dealer will not supply it, send them written communication quoting their verbal statements, and advise that if not disputed and corrected that you will be using that information as the basis of your claim.

Part of the reason these lamers like to use the phone is because it's much harder to hang someone based on "he said, she said".

All the best with it mate.
