First service

Got my new 2012 CRD Mineral Grey today

When is the first service needed for the CRD? My dealer told me at 10,000km or 6 months, but I thought I saw on the forums there's an earlier one for a new vehicle.

Re: First service

Most dealers offer a free 1,000km inspection.

Re: First service

My dealer advised no 1,000k check needed. It's usually only a 1/2hour check to see if anything needs tightening, replaced or filling.

Outside of the recovery hook issue, this is my second Jeep and I've been a customer of this dealership for over 10 years. They know me and I know them. They'll do all my service and warranty work as per past history, so to answer your question, yes.

Does this mean you don't need to do an oil change between services every 5000km?

No worries mate, I hope to have a similar relationship with my dealer.

I guess I was more getting at that after a while on this forum, it's not hard to believe that something will need tightening, replacing or filling. Half an hour isn't much for peace of mind, and it's only in the dealer's interest for him not to have to spend the time on a 'free' inspection. Cheers.

In Australia for the CRD oil change and service Jeep recommend 10k - in NZ for the same vehicle it is 12K. In Europe I thought i read somewhere that oil change was 20K.
The vehicle also has an oil change indicator that is triggered by general use and this may be earlier or later than the recommended km. In theory I guess that means you can just drive it until the indicator comes on. I have friends with an X5 diesel and they drive to the indicator (with their BMW dealers blessing) - at 64000K they had their 4th oil change...
The selection of correct oil for these things is very important and has an influence on the long life performance as well as protection for the particulate filter in the exhaust.

Re: First service

I read conflicting information that the GC offered in UK is a detuned version therefore longer service intervals? However when I look at the UK CRD engine specs they match up with AU specification. Perhaps the colder temperatures in UK and NZ has a influence on the longer service intervals?

I had often wondered the same thing, whether it is a temperature thing. Possibly it may also have something to do with their environmental or emmission laws? ie Long drain intervals mean less oil waste etc etc. I'm only guessing here as I do not know.

I don't believe it has anything to do with temperature or environmental laws. I believe it is simply Chrysler Australia trying to screw you for as much service revenue ad possible after the sale.
