Folding Mirrors

Due to a narrow garage, I need to fold my side mirrors to avoid any nasty wall removals.
I have noticed that when I start the car, and select reverse to exit the garage, the mirrors automatically unfold. Anyone else had the mirrors unfold, after restarting the engine, even though speed is probably about 1km per hour?
I would have thought they need either a manual touch of the switch, or a certain speed to unfold.

Yet to experience the same in mine, but my last car kept them folded until either the button was pressed in the cabin, a double click on the remote, or 30kms. I noticed on the demo I had , you can't fold/unfold them remotely off the key fob which is a bummer, especially in shopping car parks. I would however of imagined they stayed folded at least until you reached 15km to 30km otherwise, whats the point?

I tested mine the other day and they opened at about 10km/h, but I did not try reverse.

Re: Folding Mirrors

By chance I had folded them in today and paid attention when driving out forward as I recalled at another time, they did unfold immediately.

Coming out forward today they did not unfold until the speed went up to approx 20-30.

I don't recall if I was moving forward or reverse when they previously unfolded immediately. If it is only in reverse could it have something to do with either the "mirrors tilt down in reverse" option or maybe because in general the mirrors are somewhat necessary for reversing.

Actually, it's a shame the mirrors tilt in reverse option can't be singled out to just the passenger side. As I find the delay in re-aligning the drivers side to the correct driving position when you're about to pull out of a parking spot into a lane with moving traffic is annoying. Similarly when you pull up in a lane to perform a reverse park, again you lose vision of moving vehicles that may come up on your blind spot (drivers side).

And yep maybe I should just turn this option off and just use the camera!!! Just that I really like to protect the wheels from hitting the curb and also getting the passenger side as close as I can to the wall - giving me more space to open the drivers side door in my narrow garage.

Re: Folding Mirrors

I cant work out the folding mirrors.
I fold mine every night.
Then in the morning at start up sometimes they unfold, then others they don't.

Have to experiment more, fold before shutting down then fold after shutting down.

Re: Folding Mirrors

When we took delivery of our Jeep we lived in an apartment with basement parking. I had a pillar right next to the Jeep. The folding mirrors worked a treat.

The only inconsistency was on start up sometimes they would remain folded until I gained a little speed when they would unfold. Other times they would immediately unfold.

Interesting to see others are experiencing the same inconsistent unfolding. Seems to me to be a computer bug. Its not a biggie so I haven't worried too much but if their is an update, that would be handy.

Re: Folding Mirrors

I just tested mine and they did not fold out when reversing, but it was only idle speed.
They did tilt when folded in.

Same here.

Hey Ally, I did read in the owners manual that if you press the tilt button for four seconds it will override the auto tilt and switch the system off. I suppose that if you fold the mirror and switch it off, all you need to do is manually switch it back on after reversing.

Re: Folding Mirrors

ok, from what i can gather here is the deal...
if you press the fold button when the car is turned off, when you start the car they will unfold. when you press the fold button while the car is still running they will only unfold in drive at ~15km/h
hope this helps
