Re: GPS points of interest

Yes, it's even more frustrating when if you are like me, live on an unverified road. Therfore it will always route us home on the shortest amount of unverified road as possible, which is OK if we have been travelling down South, but then adds about 20 mins to our journey if we have been travelling up North.

Spoke to Chrysler Jeep again today. Said that they are waiting on Nokia who evidently own Navteq??, to give them an update on when the new maps will be available. Should know by the end of the week. We shall see. I again explained that it is just not a map issue but a software issue re the unverified roads. Said they didn't know anything about that (even though I have explained it to them many times before) and to get the dealer to raise a Tech Case.

Round and round the garden, like a teddy..........

Re: GPS points of interest

Since Navteq release maps every qtr, I am amazed at that statement from Jeep.
It is Jeep Aust who decided not to purchase maps qtrly, but to do it only annually.

Re: GPS points of interest

Quarterly sounds about right. Maybe they do a customised "Jeep" version or something and only produce that at the request of Jeep.

Who knows whats going on. One thing is for sure is that Chrysler Jeep don't.

Re: GPS points of interest

Regardless of the misleading and faulty routing in the Jeep GPS, I think we can all agree that the Jeep GPS is basic. I think anyone who has any experience with a Tom Tom or Garmin, or even the aldi $49.95 GPS will know what a reliable GPS should do.

Now the good news. Today I took my Jeep into the Canberra Dealer where Craig Rosevear of Jeep HO had sent the map update disks. They have uploaded the disks and I tested it against known routes that previously had instructed us to go via capital cities making the GPS unuseable. Here are the examples of my tests:

Canberra to Batemans Bay - last week via Sydney and 512 kms. Today on the Jeep GPS 148kms, travelling the same as Google and Tom Tom.

Canberra to Dubbo - last week via Sydney and 618 kms. Today by Jeep GPS 407kms, travelling the same as Google and Tom Tom.

Canberra to Bendigo - last week via Melbourne and 778 kms. Today by Jeep GPS 650km, travelling the same as Google and Tom Tom.

POIs - at least Bunnings is no longer in NZ. Under Emergency it shows 2 hospitals in Canberra (correct) but another in Braidwood. Missed the Queanbeyan hospital, another major regional hospital only 8 kms away. So I guess in an emergency I would prefer to use my mobile phone to check.

THIS UPDATE WAS FREE. SO IT SHOULD BE AFTER PROMISING A FIX FOR ALMOST 18 MONTHS.

AND A BIG THANK YOU TO CANBERRA A.C.T. DEPARTMENT OF FAIR TRADING - THIS RESULT IS ONLY BECAUSE OF THEIR LETTERS, EMAILS AND CALLS OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS.

Jeep certainly wasn't interested in my welfare. I have a stat declaration from another Jeep owner, in preparation for a court case, that even up to 24 April 2013 Tracey at Jeep customer service was telling people she knew nothing about the navigation routing issues.

Not a wise idea, Tracey and Jeep. The internet makes for a small world.

Why not contact Jeep Customer Care and ask for your free GPS update - Tracey can be reached on 1300 133 079.

Good luck!

Re: GPS points of interest

Just spoke to the Jeep dealer in Mandurah who told me that they had tried the update and it had failed. When I asked how it failed I did not get an answer.
Did not get past reception to discuss it further unfortunately.
What next?

Re: GPS points of interest

Call 1300 133 079, complain about the issue, and ensure you receive a Case Number.
Also request an expected date for rectification.

I don't think that the latest update has been widely distributed yet, so I would suspect that they only installed one of the general radio head unit software upgrades. Hopefully the new nav system mapping update will be made available soon.

Re: GPS points of interest

Hey Swampy- I rang "Tracey" today (11th June) to complain about my Sat Nav, but got a "Sean" who told me that Jeep Aust have received a "Test" update disc/s from Nokia & have fitted it to "one vehicle" for "Evaluation" . If successful the updated discs will be distributed to dealers in "about 4 weeks" . He gave me a "Case Number ( 266775) took my email , mobile , VIN, dealers details. Says he will get back to me when its available. (Time will tell!!!) In my case , Driving up around Bundaberg, unit gave me a nearest shopping centre in Berkshire , England!!!!!! Also urging sudden right turns into cane farm fields at various points along the Woodgate road..... Serious errors hey!!!!

Re: GPS points of interest

Has anyone brought up the subject of compensation? I purchased my car to do a 15,000 klm caravan trip. Ended up using a small Navman to find my way through some of the cities and larger towns which can be quite stressful with three ton of caravan in tow.
