Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

For $2k, it's bloody good value when you read the list.

For a premium of $2000 over the cost of the base Laredo, the Blackhawk package adds the following:

Blackhawk-exclusive 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels painted high-gloss black
Body colour lower front fascia with gloss black applique
Body colour seven-slot Jeep grille with gloss black surrounds and platinum chrome vents
Body colour lower rear fascia, wheel arch flares and side sill cladding
Tinted side glass
Dual bright exhaust tips
Gunmetal front headlamp bezels
Gloss black front fog lamp bezels
Gloss black rear tail lamp bezels
Gloss black rear step pad
Black roof mouldings instead of standard roof rails
Gloss black badging on bonnet and tailgate
Black Capri leather seat upholstery with perforated suede inserts and black accent stitching and Heated front seats
Silver anodized interior paint finishes
The Cherokee Blackhawk retails from $41,000, while the Grand Cherokee Blackhawk costs $50,500 and $56,500 for the V6 petrol and V6 diesel respectively.

I know the seats are already heated but leather is kinda cool.

Value is a funny thing....

So black bits instead of chrome? Painted wheel arches instead of black. I suspect this costs Jeep absolutely nothing - maybe even less! So we are left with leather as far as I can tell. Granted the Blackhawks looks nice.

I remember reading many years ago that it cost a car manufacturer (cannot remember which) an extra $1.45 to install a radio with a CD player over one with a cassette player, but the PERCEPTION of the value allowed them to charge it as an option at $600 a pop. Same thing happens with Nav's now. My own perception of the value of an inbuilt Nav is $0, other people will pay thousands.

The rich tapestry of life.....

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

Now the cassette player is actually quite a wonder. All them gears and limit switches and stuff... not to mention the basic premise of extracting a your favourite tunes from a piece of rusty plastic tape. Ahhh the magic...

Guess the GC is not the best underwater rescue vehicle.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

In the '60s I believe that Buick had an "ugly" stylist. Cars ran in a three year model cycle then and the job was to take the final design and "uglify" it for the first two years so the third year would still generate sales.

Just look at the 63-64 Riviera and then the 65 or 68-69 Skylark and then the 70.
