Linda is after a car with good economy, comfort, handling and the ability to accommodate at least four adults on rough gravel roads. It needs to be happy off the tarmac and it must also be capable of towing up to 3500 kilograms. While a dual-cab ute is her obvious choice, she'd prefer a wagon body and is wondering if Isuzu's MU-X might fit the bill.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee, meanwhile, in being the most popular car in the class, clearly shows buyers don’t mind forfeiting a third row of seats. Accept that, and the American SUV wins outright by best blending fine driving abilities, a semi-premium interior and plenty of equipment for the money.
I agree Benn0 - I think a 7-seater would cleanup over here except it doesn't appear as easy or more accurately as economical as one would think to do the RHD conversion.
At the March Geneva Motorshow Mike Manley said:
A born-again Grand Wagoneer large seven-seat wagon might also play a part in the expansion of Jeep’s Australian line-up.
Mr Manley all but ruled out a factory RHD Grand Wagoneer, saying it was “very unlikely” due to a lack of RHD sales potential, but added cryptically: “We have recently found new ways of making right-hand drive more cost-effectively.”
GoAuto understands the group is weighing up a proposal to get around the problem by converting the vehicle to RHD in New Zealand for Australasia.
Both start at about $40,000, another entry criterion for this comparison that meant also ruling out the more expensive Mitsubishi Pajero and Toyota Prado that complete the top 10 sellers list.
Hi All,
The JGC used for VIP duties would seem to be 5.7 LTD's. Do not seem to be 14's but the 13's with the 6spd gearbox. Hard to find really good pictures. Probably not Quadradrives either.
Regards
Franklin, 27, was driving a Jeep belonging to his girlfriend, television presenter and model Jesinta Campbell, when it was involved in the crash on New South Head Road in Rose Bay just after 7pm.
I see Overland magazine has gone back and reviewed the Disco4 and GC Overland diesels, asking if they got the results wrong for their 4OTY review. Back then the Disco placed 3rd and the GC 6th.
They came to the same conclusion as last time, the Disco has better wheel travel and articulation, a better seating position for offroad, and better air intake position. They also give points to the Disco for it's size..... of course they don't mention this means more weight.
Not in the media but possibly the best thread for this.
I have read the Caradvice figures for April sales and notice the JGC only sold 1014 units last month compared to 1368 units the previous month.
Prado sold 1719 in March and 1622 in April. Why the sudden drop in sales? I know that Prado has a new model which would help and a lot of dealers are buying up big to boost sales for the month and count the vehicles as sold.
Hate to see the JGC drop to LC 200 levels in sales.
Prado would be the major factor, not that it's new, just has a new ugly face, same old stuff underneath.
Dealers stock orders do NOT count towards new car sales. If a dealer was to register a car (that counts as a sale) then the value of the car drops immediately. They only do that to demo vehicles.
New car sales are at a two year low, the last thing a dealer would do is order more stock than they absolutely need. it would kill their cash flow.
The Grand Cherokee and Prado led a two-horse race in the large SUV segment, with the Ford Territory (877), Toyota Kluger (874) and Holden Captiva 7 (748) following a long way back.
Edited to add: I don't agree for one moment the 'enemy within' comment made by the journo. I don't think Laredo sales will be impacted by the KL. Two very different vehicles. Infact, the pricing of the KL Limited, fully loaded may even push some buyers the other way ie: towards the Grand. (perhaps)
The Grand Cherokee will also face a new enemy within, with the smaller, more stylish Cherokee expected to become a volume seller for the brand, potentially eating into the cheaper end of the bigger SUV’s sales.
I've just read this review posted on the NZ Herald today with regards to the MY14 GC SRT and had a bit of a laugh.
I love this quote:
It's purpose is essentially to make the driver feel good and yes, perhaps a little bit smug as hippies burst into tears when it rumbles past with its 300g CO2/km-plus emissions.
However, I wish these dimwit journo's would get it right for once. It's no longer an SRT8.............it's now SRT only, the 8 dropped for the new models.
Now i'm off to dump 300g's of carbon at my local shops
Jeep Grand Cherokee might be getting a new facelift. Mopar which have been working with Jeep for the last few years to create concepts for their annual Easter Jeep Safari. Previously, two Cherokee have already been announced and introduced. Now, they are showing us the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
