Oh dear. I saw that yesterday and thought "well there goes his chance of getting any love from his dealer in the future". Paying 8 grand for the privilege is hilarious...

He Spent $8K doing that video.

The complaints related to directly in the article and the "rap" do appear to be simple and fixable.

The steering to left thing is the camber adjust TSB back in Nov 2014 - fixed for free
and the limp mode would be the DPF software flash in Dec 2014 - fixed for free
not sure about the "smells" but they'd chuck in a free Charcoal cabin filter according to another TSB.

One point I agree on is we do need "lemon laws" to make sure manufacturers don't send out sloppily manufactured product and that dealers don't just fob off their customers with issues, which appears to have happened to this dude to get him to this point.
I wonder if the dealer did fix the issues or just stuffed him around. He bought it in October 2013, so that vintage is known to have a few issues, and back then the dealers were particularly unhelpful.

More recently the action by the ACCC seems to have resulted in dealers being a bit more obliging to fixing stuff. Surely a letter of demand citing the 2011 consumer protection laws should be enough to get them moving. But yeah it should be easier.

Hard to know what went on without more detail, maybe the media will interview him soon.

My dealers service manager laughed at me when I cited that less than a month ago.

I don't want to give away too much information here but they even ignored/fobbed off GM level contact from FCA.

FCA look like they are trying to turn things around, but some dealers are still showing an absolute disregard for all things sensible.

Do it in writing and give them a deadline to respond, otherwise lodge a complaint with the ACCC. They face $$$ fines if they fail to fix things.

Otherwise FCA are supposedly putting in the customer redress program:

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

All my issues are currently sorted, but for anyone reading it who isn't getting anywhere i'll list the things that didn't help:

* Engaging the service manager or GM of the dealer in writing (ignored) or on the phone/in person (laughed at).
* ACCC, responded with a soft reply, more interested in the scale of the situation rather than individual complaints.
* Fair Trading, toothless tiger, soft reply, recommended NCAT.

Things that helped:

* Significant escalation within FCA, forget front line staff.
* NCAT (or your states equivalent), it was amazing how quickly they picked up the phone when they got that letter.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

Its a shame a good vehicle has its reputation pulled down due to some moron dealers (who as I understand are independent operators).
My old man was ready to purchase a grand Cherokee after test driving, but a couple of people mentioned the Lemmon thing to him and now he's holding off. It seems that a LOT of non-jeep owners are haters who love to spread the negative vibe. Bit of a shit off really...

The really stupid thing is that other brands have the same problem with dealers refusing to fix stuff. How many prado owners have had injector and turbo problems, but toyota won't fix them? I had a mate with a navara (and I was looking at buying a Pathy R51 for a while so was on the forums), Nissan wouldn't fix basic stuff, let alone the dpf issues or the exploding clutch problem.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

U r spot spot on Benno the D4D issues in the Prado are well document and at $16000 a fix our jeep issues seem insignificant compared to the Prado diesels.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

FYI: for WA Members: In today's local rag our local dealer (Ford/Chrysler) has a MY14 runout deal at the moment, they have 7 GC Laredo's to move by the end of November. Rumor is the dealership has sold and being purchased by a Perth based ford dealership.

If anyone was contemplating upgrading to a new GC they have them from $51K driveaway.

They also have a 2015 GC Blackhawk

My favourite part was about the pulling to the left for safety reasons. Who the **** comes up with this shit and think it sounds reasonable?

The video is nearly at 2 million views now.
