Grand Cherokee in the media

Thought a thread for media articles about the GC would be a good idea:

What off-roader should I buy?

Linda is after a car with good economy, comfort, handling and the ability to accommodate at least four adults on rough gravel roads. It needs to be happy off the tarmac and it must also be capable of towing up to 3500 kilograms. While a dual-cab ute is her obvious choice, she'd prefer a wagon body and is wondering if Isuzu's MU-X might fit the bill.
She should buy a Jeep!

Another funny one from the UK, I guess compared to a focus the Jepp is 'menacing'.... lol

It is absolutely huge. Not quite as long as the ridiculous Audi Q7 but in terms of road-going threat, which is what people buy cars like this for, it actually out-menaces the Q7 by being nearly three inches taller. Get out of my way, little man in your little car. That's the intention. In reality you'll just annoy normal people in their normal cars.
Vehicles like the Grand Cherokee really make me wonder what sort of person buys them. There's no doubt that it's remarkably practical and super luxurious, but lots of cars are exactly that these days without looking like they're going to eat you.
The difference with an off-roader like the Grand Cherokee is that it's got six different driving modes - sand, mud, rock, snow, crawl and auto - plus a low or high ratio eight-speed gearbox and height adjustable suspension.
That lot would take it a lot farther than parked on the pavement but sadly that's the biggest task it will ever face from most owners.
Given the weather we've had recently, and are bound to get again, there is a new argument for owning such a vehicle because it will get us through some serious flooding.
But apart from farmers and people living in threatened areas I can't understand its attraction or even begin to comprehend what sort of people will spend 50 grand on a top-range Summit model.
Probably idiot footballers or their equally stupid wives who want to out-muscle the posh hair and sunspecs set outside the school gates.

I bought a jeep, paid a negotiated price and it came with 100% of the jeep customer service we expect. Those that only paid 25% of the price should feel ripped off that they dont get the same level of customer dissatisfaction.

Have a look at the Jeep Australia Facebook page - I suspect there are a few people in head office and the media agency that have had a VERY long day....

Would that not make it a successful gimmick for Jeep to get people talking?

You will get the morons that will go out and buy one just because they have the mentality of - so many people wanted to win one, they must be good

I cant see Jeep being concerned at all about anyone that feels unfairly treated in this, specially when they have little or no concern about customers that have bought their product and not received what they paid for

I think the issue here, is not that they didn't win, but the fairness of it. Some had more advantage than others. Jeep did not comply with the conditions they setup for the competition. Apparently they were supposed to receive a text message on the phones. Some didn't get that message until after the competition had closed. I see several complaints have been made to the ACCC, so this might get interesting.
Jeep Australia can't manage their own workplace, let alone try to attempt to run a raffle.

I agree, initially I thought it was just sour grapes, but looking at what happened on their facebook page it seems that Jeep Oz really messed it up.

The secret number(s) got posted online (somewhere?) before the 9am kickoff, so some people already had the number ready to go before the phone app displayed it. Jeep Oz found out about this, and in an attempt to rectify said they will keep the phone lines closed for 20 seconds so everyone has a fair chance to call. BUT the phone app crashed and didn't give the number out until 4 mins after the lines opened. Meaning those with the inside info of the numbers posted online had an advantage and those following the rules missed out.

It's a mess, Jeep Oz didn't rectify the problem correctly when the number got leaked online, they went for a dodgy quick fix that wasn't sufficient.....

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Review | CarAdvice

This would be the best car ever I have owned, after driving Ford’s, Holden’s, Toyota’s and Mitsubishi’s. The comfort and economy is terrific and towing a van the power is fantastic you don’t even feel like you are towing anything, as for driving on dusty gravel roads even with the van on I have never had a problem with dust getting in the vehicle and the handling and response has been great on the gravel.

Coopers STMaxx, but anything in an LT construction would be a good idea I'd say.

edit: And that isn't my review, just something I found online. I don't tow.

The lack of quotation marks made me think that was your comment below a review. It wasn’t until I read the link I saw it was from the review.

My mum bought a Jeep - The Experts | Switzer

Car numbers continue to out-pace population growth. Over the year to January 2014, motor vehicles registered in Australia rose by 2.6 per cent with cars up by 2.3 per cent. Over the year to December, Australia’s population rose by 1.7 per cent.

More Toyotas: As at January 2014 there were 2,672,459 Toyota passenger cars on the road (20.1 per cent of all cars), followed by Holden (1,995,255 cars) and Ford (1,496,269). While the number of Toyota cars on the road rose by 2.5 per cent, Ford cars fell by 3.8 per cent and Holden cars fell by 1.6 per cent. The number of Jeep cars on the road over the past year soared by 20.5 per cent – the fastest growth of any top 30 make in seven years.

Maybe Johns has gone back to organising weddings at Hamilton Island. A role she was far better suited for. Weddings, similar to her approach at Chrysler, are a one time event, not requiring any after sales support.

I am guessing Glenn Jones is salivating at the mouth, probably looking at the role. He is just as suitable as the predecessors. Just lacks credibility.

Why's that ?
Johns has to carry the can for the inability of JA to expand in line with sales - parts supply, poorly trained and resourced dealers, poor engagement with customers, lack of acknowledgement and problem solving for known issues.

Leach did her job very well. I think people misunderstand the role of PR - it really is just running defence for a company. They are not there for customers at all. I experienced her attitude first hand when the issues with the MY12 recovery hooks and sand mode failures first surfaced. Stonewall and deny everything.

Well she was a bit
No complete failure so good riddens
Hope the next over paid CEO actually can do the job and support customers and grow the brand
