Yeah, I was more talking about the offroad ability. The Jeep's terrain management outperforms the Navara's torque distribution system by a fair way.

It is just the firm suspension that lets it down, hurts articulation and makes for a rougher ride. Give it a go on straddie, moreton or teewah beach, it eats up soft sand.

The Durango would have been a shoo-in for our friends across the road when they were looking about 18 months ago.

They have 5 kids. When #5 was still 'cooking', they started looking for a replacement for their Territory. It just did not have the cargo space needed for the pram and stroller when #5 arrived. #4 still needed a stroller. With all seven seats utilized in the Territory, it basically left room for next to no cargo.

He didn't want the Disco (didn't like the shape) and didn't want the Volvo XC90 (because it was a Volvo and didn't like the price attached).

What he really, really wanted was Jeep 7-seater (which of course he couldn't have and he kept on asking me... 'when is it coming out?' - 'Not in time mate' was my standard response)

They ended up with the Pathfinder - Petrol. He didn't care about that.

Fast forward a year from them taking delivery of the Pathy (which is working out fine for them - he's not enthralled with it but whatever) and he couldn't wait any longer and went out 6 months ago and bought himself an MY15 GC Laredo just for him.

If the Durango was available to him (he looked at it, US ones online, when they were looking and said why can't I have that? It's not a Jeep but it's the closest I can get for 7 seats) then he would have purchased it. Absolutely no doubt.

Smart arse

I'm just giving you an example. I think it would go well down-under but the caveat is, it would do better if it came from factory not conversion.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

Yeah, while you might have a few takers, I think the lack of a diesel would be a turn off, and being an imported conversion would be another turn off. Just can't see them selling many of them, as opposed to the RAMs which get a lot of grey nomad interest. The wagoneer factory diesel would get the sales.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

FCA need a 7 seater in the Aust market. It can't be a Mini-van although I think the new Pacifica would go well but that is a separate segment and argument.

We know that the market wants 7 seats. For some reason even families of 2 children want a 7 seater. I don't profess to understand it, as to why people want a 7 seat when there is only 4 in the family but it is what it is.

The Grand Wagoneer is well off being offered in Aust - I suspect 3 years. I'm not even sure a diesel offering would make the difference (perhaps in some cases but not ultimately a deal breaker).

Why were Mitsubishi so quick to introduce the 7-seat option in the Pajero to the Aust market so quickly after it's initial release a few months ago.

The answer is the market - it demanded it.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

I agree totally, the market here wants 7 seaters - just in case I need to pick up friends or whatever.

I have two kids, but never wanted 7 seats - give me the extra cargo area. But I know Im the exception.

When we went shopping before I got my current Overland we looked seriously at getting a Disco. Even though the 7 seats is an option, basically every Disco comes into the country with it fitted ex factory. You have to special order one if you dont want the 7 seats. And the resale on a 5 seater is badly effected.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

Yep, understand about the Disco. More friends around the corner ordered two in one day. (Two families - each with 2 kids). Trotted off to Macarthur LR one day, came back holding orders for two Disco's (7-seats).

I have never seen those vehicles with more than 4 people in them (and I see them 6 days out of 7 - soccer on the weekends included). Go figure.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

We used to have a Jeep Commander 7 seater (we have 3 kids). To be honest, we very rarely ever used the extra seats. And now with the GC I really don't miss the extra seats. But... When the 7 seat Wagoneer finally arrives I'll be first in line to get one. Good to have the extra seats just in case...

Doubt that. Moderate day of 25deg and my temp guage sits awfully close to the orange when it sees any hill. It seems to be a common issue.

Mine does that on offroad hill climbs with no towing. It doesn't seem to be an actual problem, I haven't heard of any actual overheating incidents, other than one owner that had an EGR valve failure.

Re: Grand Cherokee in the media

Just saw a new Jeep ad on TV. "Our history is etched in mud". Not bad. Seems to be a lead in to the 75th anniversary models.
