The squeaky wheel gets the oil!

The last thing I want as a Jeep owner is for the GC to get a bad reputation. I've only had my GC for 3 months (it's my second Jeep) but have already had it on the beach 3 times, including through all the tough inland tracks on Fraser Island over 6 days. So despite this latest issue I am still really quite impressed with the overall reliability and capability of the Jeeps based on my own experience.

I never had the service 4wd issue (yet) but have to say hearing about it has shaken my nerves a bit. For me, all I need to have my confidence restored is for Chrysler to officially acknowledge the issue and advise on the solution. But the longer it takes the more my confidence is shaken.

I'm exactly the same.

I havn't had the failure either, but I have a wife and kids and its all a bit late when I'm stuck on a beach somewhere. I traded a 2002 Challanger for the specific reason that it was getting a bit old and our confidence in it was getting a bit shaky (even though it never let us down!). But I've spent $60K and I'm no better off.

Me 3.... Although it seems if you haven't had the problem you more than likely wont get it. If 4x4 Australia are going to run the story. I imagine they have done their research and are not just reproducing the opinion of a disgruntled owner. I would have thought they would also contact cjd for comment i wouldnt tell them

I agree with Brett that this is a fantastic vehicle an operates very well as a 4wd. I can't see how a problem that once acknowledged and rectified could devalue the brand. It might slow sales in the interim but might just be enough to get someone's attention.

I have already informed the customer service manager in Melbourne. She responded that there was no need to go to that extreme. My response was just be thankful you don't already have a class action for the false advertising and unfit for purpose as they have been knowingly advertised the vehicle on the beach whilst still not having a fix for the problem.
I now have my second CTTT date on my claim and this will be on the 26th September. If they don't have a proven fix by then, we will see the first precedent set in the courts, which will pave way for everyone to get a refund

Mendo, don't forget to keep us posted when you take your wheels off and inspect for corrosion

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Just to make sure everyone saw my post from before, I had the 4WD issue and the dealer (in communication with Jeep engineers) ended up installing a dynamic ABS sensor. I have no way of verifying that this fixed anything since I don't have any sand near by but I am hopeful. If others on this forum could inquire about this solution, we might be able to root out if Jeep really believes in it enough to promote it or not.
The replaced part was part # 56029469AA SENSOR-DYNAMICS Replaced the dynamic sensor and relearned the ABS

Opinions please - do you think I should let Chrysler Aus know, that I know, that 4x4 Aus are going to print an article, or not? Will telling Chrysler apply more pressure to get them to find a fix quick smart?

I would value your input.
Let them find out the hard way although I'm sure they already know. Some seem to be concerned that the WK2 will get a bad reputation. Do we care? Let the Toyan (Toyota/Nissan) crowd laugh if it makes them feel good. We will have the last laugh.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Just got my October issue of 4X4 Australia in the mail. Yeah, I know, it's still August . In the 4X4 Forum section on page 26, they published emails by Shane Mooney and Greg Morgan about their GC sand driving woes. The emails were published under the headings, "BOGGED DOWN 1" and "BOGGED DOWN 2".

The Editor's comment was, "We forwarded your letters to Chrysler, however, at the time of writing we had received no reply. We hope to publish an official response from Chrysler in an upcoming issue. - Tim Scott"

in the trouble shooting/problems/service section in this forum there is another thread which details the sand malfunction.
A user by the name of Carver posted that he had the issue occur to him, HOWEVER he was in 4LOW and it appeared that he didn't lose power to the front wheels.
So even though he had warning lights flashing he was still able to continue without getting stuck!
This makes sense as the centre diff activated in low range creates a mechanical lock front to rear.
This leads me to believe the error isn't mechanical and is definitely an error with a sensor.

It looks like low range might be the only way to go in the sand at the moment...
I did indeedy do some sand work, and most was similar to this:

Now because I had selected 4WD LOW, I still certainly had drive to the front wheels however, on a 4WD (no matter how capable or not-ask the Prado driver whom got stuck with a little tin-tub on something the Jeep ate up) you want to have full confidence in the system, and that you do not get a warning message saying your system is dead.

I did do about 120km in Sand mode on the last day there, on SAND! too, and did not have any issues. But we should never have any weird warnings and issues unless spines and gears are sticking out the side of the transfer box/diff's. (well, maybe a little before the bits pop out)

The Jeep FB site did have my bigger write-up on their site, and I don't think it was edited.

I hope they are not holding their breath for the reply. Jeep just love sweeping problems under the carpet.
