Hi Mendo - can I ask where you had the update done? I'm venturing out onto the beach in a couple of weeks and really want to get this patch applied first. It sounds like it's still difficult to actually get most dealers to admit there is a fix...

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Had mine done at heartland castle hill, so the service guys there know about it. I'd suggest however that you would still need to go through chrysler hq to get them to arrange with your dealer.

I think this happens already but as I recall it is the two electronic stability control (ESC) lights that come on, maybe the ABS as well. This happens after you get bogged and the system realises you aren't going anywhere. It switches the ESC off temporarily to assist traction. The idea is something like this. Normally when one wheel loses traction and spins, the ESC brakes the spinning wheel shifting torque to the opposite wheel. However, if say both front wheels are up to the axles and spinning but you have a bit of traction in the rear, it is counterproductive to apply brakes to the front. It happened to me and yes both lights went off after a while on bitumen.

Hi Brett I haven't had the problem with the serv4wd light, so haven't had the update done. It seems mine works as it should. I had a friend take his to moreton is last week and he didn't have a problem it was a new overland that was delivered in July. He kept it in low for the majority of his time and switched between sand and auto.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Hi All,

Some very pertinent info relating to the serv 4wd error in the following link:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f309/...l#post14187465

The bad news is that this guy is in South Africa and reports that he had the software patch applied and that the problem still exists in 4hi (possibly why there is no official TSB as yet - my guess is that anyone who has been given the patch has been given "beta" software).

He reports that the issue is caused by ABS shutting down the 4wd system. I have now had this problem once and it happened to me after hitting the brakes fairly hard in the soft sand. While this problem appears to be unresolved I will be altering my driving style in the sand accordingly... I do feel slightly better knowing what sort of driving conditions may cause the issue and what to do to minimise the chance of it occurring. Of course I would much rather know that the issue has a 100% confirmed fix.

Any of you other guys who've had the patch tried it out yet?

That is very interesting. One is taught not to use brakes on sand. That could explain why it was not picked up during testing.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Had a call from Jeep the other day which was nice, during the discussion I was told the error will still occur but it will DEFINITELY not disable 4wd.

Fingers crossed.

Me too.

Very pleased and Chrysler customer service seem to be working pretty hard to make sure I'm happy, which is great.

I havn't been able to get my car on the sand yet but they asked that I report back once I do.

I'm very happy at the moment.

I did ask that they send me a note on which warning lights I can expect, which they said they would do in a day or two.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

See how easy it is to get a good customer response? I hope Chrysler Australia learn something from this.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Well we should thank 4wd magazine and two people who reported it. I reckon what got it over the line was the fantastic stuck in sand photos i sent and jeep aus fear of being published in main stream media.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Havn't been on here for a while then I notice:

"Hello Hellipilot it appears that you have not posted on our forums in awhile, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?"

So I will.

As it is school hols and as my 6 year old is in daddy-day-care we are going to Birubi Point (Opposite end to Stockton Beach) to hit the big beach in the wife's CRD Overland. Its the Jeeps first time in 4WD on the sand or anywhere for that matter. We will see if it is one of the 'gifted' and not sucumb to the problems of bogging due to mech/elect failures.

We will see.
