Has anyone been in contact with Heartland Chullora about this issue yet? Explaining the situation to service manager will become a lot easier for me if I can reference someone.

Heartland Chullora only been up and running last 2-3 months, I am assuming that their service department probably don't know anything about it. There was a article about stuck on sand in 4x4 Australia magazine. Jeep Aus responded to the issue saying its been reolved in the same magazine. if you can find a copy and take it to dealer it may help. I am considering ditching the rude parramatta jeep service department and going to Heartland Chullora for servicing as its walking distance from home, let me know how you go.

Heartland Chullora service manager seems to be a good guy but then again I haven’t asked the tough questions as yet. Trying to build a friendly atmosphere first. I need to take my jeep back to him after new years to fix an issue with a bearing in the steering wheel. I will ask him the question then.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Just got back from another week on Fraser Island. No problems at all. We were in high and low and mostly sand mode unless we forgot. In fact I think it performed better than the first outing last year. The traction control seemed less active and more relaxed if that makes any sense. It also held a better gear when in soft sand. Mine is an early MY12 crd with qlift and i have not had any fix applied to date. So it appears there is no hard and fast rule with the failure.

Drove about 15km's on the beach today, about 400m of very soft and steep dunes on and off the beach. Selected sand mode, low range and 25psi, had no issue's at all. In fact we have travelled over 2000km's on this trip and the GC has performed flawlessly. Cheers

Both my and my friends GC failed after about 1 hour of continuous very soft sand driving involving slow speeds between 10 - 20kph. Short trips on soft sand were no issue and the car was fantastic over Indian Head and even drove up to Orchid beach. The last night of our trip there was 50mm of rain that helped the tracks ALOT. There had only been 60mm over the previous 6 months.

I think for most trips you won't have an issue. The tracks were exceptionally soft during my trip and the tow truck driver commented on them being the worst he'd seen in a long time. Fingers crossed that once my car has the update all will be good for my next trip.

What mode have you guys been using when on the sand, do you put it in sand mode the while time or switch back to auto on the hard sand?

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Mostly kept in sand mode but did use Auto occasionally only when the sand was very hard.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

I've always used sand mode 100% of the time on the sand. The one time I did have the error was within 5 minutes of hitting the sand, and it wasn't particularly deep or soft (i.e was on the beach and not an inland track).

Hey Heb72, where about did the error occur for you, was it on the inland tracks leading to Kingfisher?

Hi Brett,
we had just driven to McKenzie and spent the day there. The going was really tough with the traction control constantly working. The car seemed fine when we arrived but after 4 hours we started again on the return trip. The back section of the return loop was extremely rough and very soft with quite a few cars getting stuck. I was stuck just before a steep hill about 1km from the lake. To be fair the cars were copping a rough time.

My friends error in the 3.6l petrol happened just before he hit the beach after a drive to the top lookout for Lake Wabby. Again about 45 minutes of constant sand driving.
