Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Just returned from pemberton wa did the sand dune beach run which is a 10 km stretch. Service 4wd light came on whilst in low range a couple of times. Although the car performed the same no loss of traction etc, second orange light came on at the same time.

Now while this service light is on it wont come out of low range, so first time i just kept going and it went out. Second time i switched off and on and took it out of low range before the service light registered.

Again it went off after a bit. It seemed to come on in the heavy going, maybe its a heat issue ?? sand was like powder and tyres were at 12psi or so to get up the hills. 15psi would bog down.

overall it was annoying light not a lot more.

The delay is from Jeep HQ in the USA, so the local operation can't do jack until HQ releases the fix to them to release to the dealers.
I rang customer assist, they have logged my complaint and given me a case number. I then rang my dealer as advised by customer assist to book in for assessment. They told me I could either come in, leave the car for 3 days while they sent the module away to be loaded or wait for the update. I opted to wait for the update and will stay off the sand until this is available. They said they hoped to have it within the month. J & K.

I wouldn't be in a screaming rush to get the temporary fix unless you are planning to go on the sand straight away as you will only need to take it back when the permanent fix is released. I can wait a couple of weeks longer.

As for contacting Shona, I emailed her and she emailed me straight back, then rung me back after I left a message on her voicemail. I got no sense that she is ducking customer's calls, quite the opposite in fact.

Same - she is very good. It is the people above her that need a smack.

Cool Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Hey Guys

Just joined your forum - started out reading about the GC problems in sand. Had a small episode myself with Overland Diesel getting stuck up near Bowen, lucky enough we were with another 4WD that was able to pull us out.
Asked my local dealer about the problem and the recurring theme - hadn't heard about it.

After reading your great forum, I was able to write to Shona but didn't receive a response, after about 5 days I called the 1300 number and spoke with Shaun who advised that Shona was in a meeting and would call me back. She called back several hours later and had also reached my email of which she has a huge backlog.

What a wonderful person she is - lovely to speak with and so helpful. We chatted for 40 minutes (might be why she wasn't able to call some of you back?).
I don't want to repeat everything exactly as she said (40 mins worth), don't want her to get in trouble. There is a temporary fix that hasn't entirely sorted the problem. The US have tested a number of 'fixes' but can't seem to nail it - must be the sand's accent?
We are all on her list to call when the permanent fix is released - annoying as it is, we can do nothing but wait. This might not sit well coming from a newbie but our voices have been heard, Chrysler are not sitting around and the fix will be released ASAP as a TSB.

For those in desperate need, Shona offered me the temp fix if I needed to head off into the sand - but again, the permanent fix will have to be done later.
For me, after having $80K buried up to the back axle (front high and dry of course), I can keep off the beach until then!

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Had my GC at Heartland, Castle Hill, yesterday. They are aware of the sand problem, said they have a software solution but my VIN number was not "flagged" for the update! Does it mean I won't have the problem on sand I asked. They couldn't tell

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

It really is very suspicious as to why the stuck in the sand issue is not prolific in the US of A. There are many, many, members here is Aus reporting the issue, yet in the US there is almost nothing to be heard. Plenty of people there drive on the beach. Might be related to some components only fitted to the export models?

No. What it means is that there is yet no fix for your model.
They "could tell you" but decided to play dumb, instaed of saying that the fix is still being developed.

It's because we drive upside down on the wrong side of the beach
