Just joined your forum - started out reading about the GC problems in sand. Had a small episode myself with Overland Diesel getting stuck up near Bowen, lucky enough we were with another 4WD that was able to pull us out.
Asked my local dealer about the problem and the recurring theme - hadn't heard about it.

After reading your great forum, I was able to write to Shona but didn't receive a response, after about 5 days I called the 1300 number and spoke with Shaun who advised that Shona was in a meeting and would call me back. She called back several hours later and had also reached my email of which she has a huge backlog.

What a wonderful person she is - lovely to speak with and so helpful. We chatted for 40 minutes (might be why she wasn't able to call some of you back?).
I don't want to repeat everything exactly as she said (40 mins worth), don't want her to get in trouble. There is a temporary fix that hasn't entirely sorted the problem. The US have tested a number of 'fixes' but can't seem to nail it - must be the sand's accent?
We are all on her list to call when the permanent fix is released - annoying as it is, we can do nothing but wait. This might not sit well coming from a newbie but our voices have been heard, Chrysler are not sitting around and the fix will be released ASAP as a TSB.

For those in desperate need, Shona offered me the temp fix if I needed to head off into the sand - but again, the permanent fix will have to be done later.
For me, after having $80K buried up to the back axle (front high and dry of course), I can keep off the beach until then!
Hi Jeepers,
what GC do you have? Petrol or Diesel?

By the look of his Avatar block I would say a 3.0 diesel

Cheers

Might be related to some components only fitted to the export models?
Shona said that has been one of the issues that has delayed engineering a fix - the fact it is only occurring here. Either our sand is a unique composition or as you said, the components on the export model are different.

Although we have many Jeep in here, I don't think many of owners take the Jeeps off-road, especially the GC. The only off-roading most of the USA GC jeeps do is when they go over the curb at the shopping malls.

If I had a beach near where I live, I will definitely drive it on the sand.

Cheers,
-A

This car was given the 4WD of the year award by Drive last year. Surely the testing would have involved sand driving, I don't understand why the problem didn't show up then.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

I think the award was for "Best Looking 4WD", not for it's actual ability to go 4WD driving.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

It appears though that not all vehicles have this problem.
I've seen footage on YouTube of people in Egypt, on sand dunes carving it up with no issues.

Search dunecrawler's posts on this website. A number of those posts are his. He had the problem early on and some fix was performed which lasted a couple of years. It has now reoccurred.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

I noticed in the 2014, the select trac selection separated the sand and mud into 2 separate buttons. I wonder if that was the fix....
