Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

I have had a bit of contact with Jeep in USA regarding this issue. Last week they came back to me and asked for my VIN, So I think they are looking into it. I sent them a follow up email today.

Their email address is :

'todd.goyer@chrysler.com' (todd.goyer@chrysler.com); customerassist@chrysler.com

Drop them a line and let them know how you feel.

I think there is another letter to the editor of 4x4 Australia magazine in the April issue too.

Email from Shona yesterday that they (AUS) expect an engineering release on the 22/03 from the US concerning this issue and they will contact me when available.

Had my 2012 WK2 in for its 20,000km service yesterday. There were no TSB updates outstanding on my model. I asked about the Sand Driving TSB and the service department knew all about it and advised that it was in its final stages of testing and they were expecting a release fairly soon.
I was happy that they knew about it and were in a position to discuss it with me.

Did Shona actually say "engineering release" or TSB? I'd be happier if she said TSB. At best it's the same thing, at worst it's just more of Chrysler's weasel words. Anyway, perhaps Milous should be advised to keep a look out for it.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

At this point, we are still waiting for an update to be released by Engineering in the US, it is currently expected around 22-March-2013.

I received an email too.

It is looking encouraging at long last to have this issue resolved.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Add me to this list. I really should have read this thread in full first before just taking my service dealers word that "it is fixed".
I had my Overland fail at a fairly critical point near Rainbow Beach (QLD) and almost lost the car to the surf (water lapping at the wheels). Not impressed at all. To add more stress to the situation I needed to be towed forward away from the surf, but as everyone knows, no front tow hooks! So all I could do is be towed backwards though some water at speed to a safer place where high tide stopped about a metre from the car.
I finally got a hold of Jeep Assist that were completely useless and put me through to a towing company south of Sydney (while I'm in QLD), idiots! They also said I should have a front tow hook on the left side then later conceeded I may not have one, WOW!
Anyway, I waited a few hours after high tide to run down the harder sand at speed in 2WD and after about a few km's it came good again.
Anyway, looking forward to this update so I can actually use the car for the purpose I bought it for, Until then I can't use this $80K car for the purpose I bought it for!

Unfortunately this the way it happens. I think its unacceptable that the car is provided without the tow hook and then has a technical issue that virtually guarantees you get bogged.

Check with your dealer and push them for the tow hook for free. Apparently if your car was ordered in 2011 but delivered in 2012, you are eligible for the tow hook.

Really is shocking to read your story exlr8.

Have you contacted Customer Service in Melbourne to make sure you are kept informed when the permanent fix is available?

Guys I think we should be demanding free front tow hooks if this issue doesn't get rectified in a month.

Exlr8 that must have been very scary moment for you and embarrassing for all the jgc owners.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

It needs to be said that "prior preparation prevents piss poor performance", yes we all know that our vehicles shouldn't have this issue, yes we know they should come with recovery hooks. However you need to take some responsibility in preparing your vehicle for off road use, to actually get in a situation and then discover you have no hooks is IMHO bizarre. Please dont take this the wrong way but as some constructive criticism.

Cheers
