Hey Joe, I think CaptainJunket has 22's here in Oz with QL without any issues, although they run close to the arches in "park".

Joe, That sand in your photo appears to be very different to the sand we have here in Australia. Your's appears to be heavier, and almost like a courser mix.

Sorry about that, I meant tires. I want to keep my stock 20" wheels for now, but I wanted to throw on some bigger tires. Right now I think I'm probably looking at 275/55R20. I believe that is the largest I've seen someone attempt with QL on 20s. Some report some rubbing some report none. I'll have to see whenever I can scrap the cash to buy some really nice tires.

Ally, you're right. This is out by the camp sites which is generally rougher terrain. However, I've done some dunes in soft sand before but it's probably not the best idea to go alone. It's tough now that summer is approaching to find groups that want to head out. But I'll snap a few pics next time I'm dune bashing.

My only issue is that when I bought mine, there was one piece left in the colour and model I wanted. The only thing is they didn't have anything other than 20" wheels and they were not very compliant in letting me switch the 20" with 18" wheels when I bought the car.

It's all good though, the current set up is great for on road which I am on about 5-6 days a week. However, I would like to goto a bigger tire size. I just never bothered to figure out what the largest tire size I can hop up to without having any future set backs because of the tire size.

Anyone know what the largest tire size I can throw on 20"s for the QL? Park mode is pretty low, so I guess I should just take measurements. But I don't really know much about tires and wheels. I hear it can effect the drivetrain etc. Anyone shed some light on this?

Very interesting! When you drive on sand do you use high or low range? Also, do use use sand mode?

low range most of the time for soft sand.

I don't usually use my QL modes, I do select the ride height with the up and down buttons. But I usually head out for dune bashing with my mates who have lifted FJs and Wranglers.

I will admit, I'm a bit cautious with the "dune bashing" but I haven't had any issues at all with let's say driving on teh beach. But as we know, beach and sand dunes are two totally different worlds.

EDIT: I will also say, lowering your tire pressure will help a lot in the softer types of sand. It really does help with improving your traction.

Thanks Bob. Note it is not an automatic flash. You need to complain of the symptoms. I'm wondering if ill get it. I've been on the sand quite a bit and have not had any problems. The old saying " if it ain't broke..." is playing on my mind.

It refers to Quadratrac only - not Quadradrive.

Had a 10,000k service on Friday last

Asked about the sand fail issue and the Dealer said they were aware of the issue an Jeep Australia has provided a Fix disk

On the invoice they noted running the update

So hopefully no issues when i go to the beach now

Nah, I think it applies to Quadra drive also. Quadradrive is just Quadratrac plus rear ELSD. Quote from the TSB:

"This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the QUADRA-TRAC II 4WD
System or Two Speed On Demand Transfer Case (Sales Code DKA) and the
following:
- 230MM Rear Axle (Sales Code DR1) and Electronic Limited Slip
Differential (Sales Code DSF)
- 230MM Rear Axle (Sales Code DR1) without Electronic Limited Slip
Differential built after May 1, 2011 (MDH 0501XX).
- 195MM Rear Axle (Sales Code DPM) (all 3.6L engine equipped (Sales
Code ERB) built after May 1, 2011 (MDH 0501XX)"
