Mendo, it is a software update for a bug fix that is caused by a combination of sensor input conditions rather than any hardware fault. I would hate for you to get stuck due to this issue. This is the quote I was given by Shona regarding the issue:

"new programming that allows the vehicle to remain in 4WD operation, while the input sensors are receiving massive amounts of conflicting information. The data conflict causes various safety systems to override other systems and the vehicle can lose 4WD operation"

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Just back from holiday in the Port Stephens area ( an amazing area to visit), did some sand driving on Stockton beach on the dunes no issues with either the 4wd or the quadra lift very happy non of the issues raised themselves. Towed 19 foot caravan with two kayaks on the car and averaged 14.2 lt per 100 sitting on speed limits covered 3500 k's drove up and back the coast from vic. 2011 grand cherokee laredo 3lt crd dark charcoal .

Glad you had a good trip sparky. Port Stephens is a pretty nice place. How much of Stockton is open at the moment - the dunes have been closed for quite a while.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Thanks for your response GMWK2
Not much is open at the moment we were fortunate the group we went with had access to the dunes we couldn't get down to the wreck or tin city as the tides were wrong but also there are some temporary closures that seem to have been extended . I will admit the first time down the dunes was an experience trying to consciously keep the steering straight even though you could feel the car sliding a bit, was unnerving but soon got used to it after a number of descents. Had the tyres down to 15 psi the new bridgestones went really well. Have some video may try and post it when I get it off the camera

Look forward to seeing your photos. We were up there in march but didn't get far along the beach as it was pouring in rain. We did a driver training day at Stockton a few years ago and went up and down some BIG dunes. But it was a great experience to see what a 4x4 is really capable of. I run out of bravery long before the truck runs out of ability.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Sounds like a Weekend outing for those owners living in Sydney/Central Coast.
Who wants to organise it?

Hmmm....

I wonder if we could organize a day with the driver training mob I went with - maybe a group discount....

I think it cost me around $150.

Feel like sponsoring Paige, Michael, Alex?

I actually suggested a day to Shona a while ago - she did ask her superior about it but they knocked it on the head.

How many people would be interested.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Had my car in for some servicing work today, and requested the fix to be installed.
Response from the dealer was that they had not heard anything about this "fix". I had to supply the TSB numbers for them.
Really makes you wonder what Jeep HQ's processes are for the delivery of updates.
I am now sure such updates only go to dealers who request it, rather than to all dealers.
I wouldn't be surprised if they have only 1 disk, which they pass from dealership to dealership when required.
