Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

I just want to confirm that the Serv 4WD error (dropping you to 2WD) only occurs when you are NOT in 4WD low. Is this correct?

I believe that is correct, but a fix is now available - best to get this done.

4x4 low really isn't necessary for normal beach driving.

That's what I thought. I'm slated to get the update done next week already. I've seen people post saying that their problem has been fixed but they drove in 4-low after the fix so their post-fix test was technically invalid...

It's not that the error doesn't HAPPEN, it's just that there's a mechanical lock between the wheels instead of electronically controlled which means it stays in 4LOW

I was referring to when you are on the sand and NOT in 4WD low.

I.E. In sand/mud mode, low pressure tires, and start driving on sand. this TSB should keep you in AWD/4WD and not get knocked down to 2WD right?

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

If you had not got the TSB, you would have been able to see the "SERV 4WD" error displayed in either 4Hi or 4Lo, but you would only lose 4wd when in 4Hi (which is why many people were using 4Lo to prevent losing 4wd).
Now with the TSB applied you should neither see the error displayed, nor lose 4wd no matter what.

Does putting it in 4low re engage the 4wd if it fails in 4high?

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

If it fails while in 4Hi then you will not be able to get it into 4Lo until the error displayed on the EVIC disappears.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Had the TSB applied last week (two of them) and the transmission is shifting much smoother than before too - no horrible clunk that was present sometimes (not yet anyway!)

Hopefully it should be fixed - I have only had the issue once and it was stuck in 4wd (I had it in Low Range, then when the error disappeared from the EVIC it was binding as if stuck in 4wd high) - Jeep dealer stripped the transfer case to release it, and then replaced the transfer case motor the week after, as well as applying the temp. fix that was available.

Time will tell - heading up to Cape York on Friday!

Kev.

Yeah, I've noticed that too, definitely not getting that same clunk when taking off at low speed.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Ok. Not sure if you guys in AUS have the same TSB, but I just got the call from the dealership. TSB (21-003-13) was performed last night. I should be good to go. I'll post pics of the Jeep on the beach this weekend.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Was on the beach multiple times on Saturday and received no errors. I was in both Auto and Sand/Mud modes. I never went into 4WD Low. I had dropped my psi to 18 in all 4 tires (stock 20" rims/tires). It handled great in the sand!!
