Absolute madness that I don't get this TSB applied unless I specifically go into to a service centre and ask/demand to have it done.

When is Chrysler Jeep Australia going to wake up and perform this TSB as a recall rather than this idiotic manner?
I'm interested in the situation because I'm worried it will happen if I take my Jeep sand driving. How soft was the sand, what size alloys do you have and what tyre pressure had you lowered to?

Cheers,
Steve

That is what I posted on their facebook page today.

Cars had both 20" and 18" wheels. Both sizes performed very well. Sand was a mixture of very soft 30cm deep to soft/firm. On average, it was probably 10-15cm deep.

Tyres were run at 15PSI

Further to that, we (the Stockton GMWK2 gang) had 7 WK2's. Only one had the "Service 4WD" light come on and that was an MY13. I'm guessing the rest had the sand fix done.

We were all very impressed with the performance of the WK2's. The trainer had a Nissan Patrol Cab Chassis with lockers. The Nissan took 2 goes to get up a tall dune. Some of the Grands made it in one.

Cars with OEM tyres did at least as good if not better than those with chunkier A/T treads. This is in line with the conventional wisdom for sand driving.

More a bunch of misfits than a gang.
But it was fun.

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

Just for interests sake. I had this happen to me while i was on a slippery mud road. About 30 Klms out of Goodooga.... I suppose the mud had similar characteristics to sand. I wasn't in sand mode either but i was going along fine until the SERV 4WD light came on. (I haven't read this whole thread as i am at work so if this is already in here somewhere, apologies.)

As the posts above suggest, I was part of this gang at Stockton and had the 20inch at 15 psi.

Have contact Customer support again and expressed my anger that the fix was not applied when they knew I was specifically heading out on to sand. They are looking into it and are to get back to me within a day or two.

Not sure why they continue to play this game that this is all new to them!

Re: Grand Cherokee + sand = FAIL

The reason they "play" with peoples lives is because of $$$$$$
Every time a dealer flashes a car computer, they charge back to Jeep Australia.

Not defending the car's dummy spit, but from my experience with thousands of 4WDs in the sand... 15psi is way too high for 20"s in soft sand.

We can't use the rules from 10 years ago and have to respond to the change in variables. I'm now curious what the trainer suggested you lower to on the day?

Cheers,
Steve

The sand was not that soft - I think 15 was fine.

Problem was the car - not the pressures.

The trainer recommended a starting point of 15psi, then lowering to 8psi if difficulties.
I can state that I certainly had no issues @15psi, and I don't think any of the other participents had issues either at that level.
PS: I have 20" wheels
