Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Guys,
Putting this up FYI. Had AC pressures checked today and the high pressure side was right at the top of it's tolerance band. The two sources of advice today basically state replacing the evaporator behind the dash must be the absolute last resort as the pressures and consequential vibration are, as reported for the last six months, eminating from the front end. Bottom line is I am advised to reduce the high pressure side but maintain it's level towards the lower end of it's tolerance band, if this does not fix it (but the claim is it will significantly assist), then replace the condensor at the front end (as advised by Freezetec months ago) and then and only then replace the evaporator.........by which time I will have had enough and got rid of it. Any thoughts from any body in the fridge industry?

Just a final point, the return line from the condensor that shoots into the cabin (where the vibration starts from) is constantly at a reasonable "warm" temp most of the time. Only when I get the vibration does this pipe get almost too hot to touch for a few seconds.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

I must say you have a lot more patience than I would in a similar situation.

I think I would have been on the "Demand a Replacement" bandwagon months ago.
I get the feeling you are never going to fix that lemon, and you may as well look at a different bottle of lemonade to get your pleasure.

Your spot on...I had the exact same conversation at work today.....already past six months of my warranty period with no guarantee of a fix other than as Enforcer mentioned a plan to continually replace parts. Mines apparantly one of three with the same issue reported into the same dealership. I am drawing hope that mass failures might result in the US taking an interest.

PS, Found two broken grille clips and a gap between my windscreen wiper shroud and the glass since it was returned to me following the TXV and compressor replacement... Doesn't give you much confidence on having the dash ripped out.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Pity you carnt get 2 identical JGC side by side and analyze the differance in operating pressures and tempertures. This would go along way too diagnose the problem.
Do the jeeps use the new micro channel tube in the condenser??
We have had the micro tubes have a restrictions in them from swarf particals from the manufacturing process. this new micro channel is a rectagular tube in cross section about 15mm with 1.5mm holes in it to allow the refrigerant pass thru. it doesent take much to drop the capacity off if 2 off the holes are blocked off.
I would be replacing the condenser first this is where heat rejection takes place and if the condenser is restricted the discharge pressure and refrigerant temp will be high.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

The irony is that Chrysler know the problem and know the fix. It is inconceivable that they don't. However, from a corporate viewpoint, they need to tread very carefully to avoid triggering a world wide recall. So they play dumb while appearing to be supportive, hoping you all just f-fade away.

If they know the fix, I wish they would just send instructions to their dealers silently. No need for a TSB if they don't want a worldwide fuss. Today's paper here had two WK2's for sale, both 2012 models with less than 9000 Kms on the odometer. When people buy a new vehicle, they don't expect to pop the hood open for at least 4 years. Chrysler needs to know that.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

My friend's GC was fixed last Thursday. Compressor and TX valve replaced, noise now gone.

He also said that the idle is noticeably smoother, which suggests the original compressor had excessive resistance in it.

I'm supposed to have had both these items replaced. Off to an accredited 3rd party tomorrow for further diagnosis.

Can you ask your friend to have a look at the new compressor, and maybe shoot over a photo. Here's a couple of photos of mine, the old one in July taken from a distance and a close up of the new one taken last week. Quite suprised how dirty the new one is after a week. The barcode label machine looks like it needs a calibration too!
