Well we definately have a fix...no more noisy ac pipes!
I can get back to loving my JEEP

I can recommend Sunco Jeep service dept they have been excellent. I can also NOT recommend Jeep Southport. Terrible service and Incompetence.

Sean

Good luck fellas with yours.

Excellent news Sean. I can chase mine up now with a degree of confidence. Do you know if they took your dash out to get to the parts?

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Yeah the whole lot came out. It was two full days for the Workshop foreman.

Good luck I don't know why your parts have taken so long...

I do have a new problem through. Cv boot is leaking grease in the rear.

Daniel

I still love the Car though.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Hey Sean, AC still behaving? Mines in Tuesday for TXV only (no evap) plus 10k service. Fingers crossed this nails the noise.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

G'day James,
Mines in right now for the TXV (Thermal Expansion Valve) changeout. (Plus a 10k service) I am advised the TXV is accessible with only a moderate strip down to get to the part. (In Sean's case, he had both the TXV and the Evaporator changed that requires a full strip down of the dash). I looked at the labour time on mine off the service sheet this arvo and it states 6 hours which whatever way you look at it is a LONG time. I'll keep you posted on what was actually done. The only niggling doubt I have is that according to HVAC engineers on the forum and elsewhere recomend that the TXV and evaporator/dryer are changed at the same time. In my case, only the TXV is being changed. Fingers crossed it solves the problem early enough so as not to stuff up the compressor......on a lighter note, got the use of a Triton whilst mines in for repair........I forgot how noisy other vehicles are!!! Jeep have definitely nailed the soundproofing!

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

A friend of mine just bought a new GC Jet edition Pentastar V6 a week or 2 ago, and has this problem.

Dealer told him that it's the fan that needs replacing so I pointed him to this thread and told him print it off and show the dealer what really needs to be done.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

An evaporator is nothing more than copper pipe with aluminium fins, there is no need to change it in this instance. Each time the system is opened to atmosphere the drier should be changed, this is standard practice across the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry and I'd be making sure they do this.

Its like changing your oil but leaving in a dirty old filter.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

TXV only replaced. Got the car back today. Noise very intermittent but still there, only after a harsh drive and stopped for a second or two......got to be related to high temperature in the engine bay or it would do it all the time.....driving me nuts trying to figure it out

Edit... Guys, I really need some help. Can somebody with a warmed up stationary CRD get and hold the revs up to 2500rpm until the engine coolant pushes to 90 degs on the EVIC with the AC/fan turned off then immediatly drop the revs to idle and at the same time turn on the AC and tell me if you get any noise/vibration. I can replicate my noise every time doing the above that I suppose simulates the condition after a harsh drive when the engnie is HOT. Just back to my theory that the problem lies elsewhere. Cheers for any help.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Sorry Glenn, just been out the front for 20 mins trying to make it happen, even had the neighbours come and ask why I was revving the car....

At 90 degrees when I hit the AC it just cuts in as per normal. Tried it as described and then tried hitting the AC while it was still at 2500rpm - no go.

Did they give you the old TXV?
