Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Makes me wonder. Im told they got to the txv through the firewall. Im almost certain the txv sits behind the centre console against the firewall INSIDE the cabin yet nothings disturbed lnside....Mate, thanks for giving it a shot. Ive tried it again tonight and the sound is freakin dreadfull!!!! Two days off the road and no further on!

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

I'll have a check and see what I can see tomorrow as far as the TXV being accessible from the engine bay - highly doubt it though. If so I'd be having a serious chat with the service dept...

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

I agree Glenn, it has to be heat related. Mine will only do it after a drive of more than 20mins and then I need to sit at idle for close to a minute. I will then feel the aircon kick in and a vibration and a slight fluttering noise. I would only deem my problem minor as it is not really that noticeable.
I would rather put up with it than have my car pulled apart trying to fix it.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Spoke to Sunco today who successfully repaired Sean's. Waiting a call back but they might be able to assist even though I didn't buy the car from them and its a warranty repair.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Mark, Service Manager at Sunco Jeep requires a mention. What a helpful bloke, talked me right through the process in repairing Sean's and is more than willing to have a shot at mine, taking me through the process of elimination that will truly determine if it is the TXV that I doubt has been replaced as claimed. Good on Yer Mark

Hi Glenn

Sorry mate I have not logged on for a while I thought you would have had yours all sorted. I can gladly say mine has remained fixed. No noise. I can definitely second your comments regarding Mark Murphy the service manager at Sunco worth the drive. Book a weekend away I did.

Wish you all the best so you can get back to enjoying the jeep.

Sean

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

....Could the noise be related to the serpentine belt slipping at 750RPM??...ie wont slip at higher RPM due to intertia, but doesn't have the grunt to fully grip when the compressor kicks in at 750RPM/idle???....might be grasping at straws again but had a good 30 seconds or so of steady note vibration (F@$'in as loud as...must have heard it outside the car as it drowned out the radio) when stopped at lights in the city. (Can't emphasise how loud it was...sounds terminal). I wonder now if the compressor clutch is the issue causing the serpentine to slip when engaged??. Would I need to put a meter on the battery terminals to see whats coming off the alternator to check this? Cheers for any advice.

Hi Glenn ... A slipping belt would sound like a screech, is that what youre getting? Could it be that the compressor has too much load or resistance when it engages, causing the belt to slip, rather than the belt simply not being able to hold.

A work mate of mine that just got a jet edition GC is also having issues, and I pointed him here. His dealer has decided to swap out TX valve and the compressor based on this thread. Not sure why they decided to swap the compressor. I'll find out if it has been done yet and what the outcome was, and let you know.

Cheers Savvas. Yep, got to agree it's unlikely a slipping belt. The TXV was replaced apparantly through a hold in the firewall. Albion now looking at a compessor replacement however I never get a return call so can only assume it's not going to happen. I'm trying Sunco in the Sunny Coast as they have experience on fixing the fault.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

I really wish dealers would talk to each other!
If Sunco knows how to fix it, pass it on to CJD, who should send out a notice to ALL service depts.
Common sense really...

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

My mate, Patrick, was told that parts will be in this week and is booked in for next week to get fixed. We'll see how he goes.

Five Dock CJD in Sydney is the dealer. (They have a radio ad that states they are Sydney's only standalone CJD dealer therefore all their technicians are CJD specialists ... something to think about).
