Surely that can't be all bad.......my dealer has Jeep, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda - all new cars and in all their model variations, going through the workshop, plus whatever other sundries they pull in.
I think a lot of other dealers are in the same boat and that is why we find lots of reports of poor diagnosis and unsatisfactory workshop visits.

I'm not lined up for brain surgery (yet) but if I was then I would like to get a guy that only does brains.......

My local dealer is Suttons Waitara. They do Holden, Kia, Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge. Holden itself is a hand full.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Straying off topic a little, mine is Tynan in Kirrawee. They do ... lots ... and also do Mercedes at Miranda. I havent had an issue yet, but I have seen some complaints on FB particularly about their workshop in Wollongong.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

My Laredo V6 just started making the groaning sound and vibration through the steering wheel. It does it early in the morning, now that the weather here in Bahrain has started cooling down. It usually starts after 15 minutes from starting the car in the morning, by the time I reach the 2nd traffic light on my way to work. It doesn't do it often.
Took the car in for 10,000 kms service but they don't know what to do with it, and since it's intermittent, are having a hard time recreating the problem.

@GlennR Has your Jeep been fixed yet? If so, do you know what they did? Anything would help to get the guys over here on the right path. I already mentioned the TXV and the evaporator, but they don't seem convinced. Thanks.

Hey Alan,
Your right on the pipes touching something they shouldn't and this is one of the items being looked at on mine. That aside, the vibration is substantial and now they are focusing on a new compressor.

Re: Harmonic noise coming from engine...

Well, I got the Jeep back last night. After two days they said they couldn't recreate the noise/problem. Lo and behold, this morning on my way to work, it did it again. Cars are funny like that.
Does anybody have a schematic layout for the AC pipes?

You're showing more restraint than I did after 2 days not fixing the problem. I nearly drove through the showroom and up the stairs into the managers office. Mine did the same.....noisy for months, and right on cue, silent as a mouse in front of the service guy....just to add to the frustration.
However, I have found a way to replicate it each time, drove up to the service centre two weeks ago, got the tech to come for a drive and got a very welcome "oh f#ck...that sounds dreadful" from him as I pulled over with a hot engine and she groaned her head off shaking the dash to pieces. Now we might be getting somewhere. I'll keep you posted....but it has been going on for 5 months.

To replicate, go for a very hard drive, if you are not willing to break any speed restrictions, put the car into second gear and thrash it for a few minutes.....try to stay out of the red.....but you really need to get the engine hot so as to get the required build up of heat under the bonnet (hood). Get her up or over the 90C. Pull over, leave her idling for a few seconds, hear the click as the AC compressor starts then sit back and listen to the noise as you are shaken out of the car. Works every time for me. If you merely start the car whilst at normal temp, you'll get nothing, and thats probably what your tech did. I have also learnt you can get to more of the piping through the firewall at the back of the engine bay. I've not looked too hard into this but I have noticed the circular cut out in the foil is disturbed through which they apparently replaced the TXV. I'll have a proper look tonight. I believe access is also possible through the windscreen wiper cover plate (black plastic shield). It won't get you to the full system but worth a look to see if you can see touching pipes.

Thanks for the heads up. I have an intermediate shaft coming in ten days to fix the "silent thud". I'll schedule a tech to test drive with me early in the morning. That's when it does it most. Surprisingly it rarely does it during the day, and sometimes in the evenings but less pronounced than in the morning.
In the meantime I'm going to give the pipes a look-see when I get home from work.

Had a look myself, must have used a top "key hole" surgeon to install anything through that hole in the firewall. Just got wind my new compressors arrived so looking to have it installed this week.
