Late last week the Jeep developed a loud harmonic noise while driving and idling.
It was a constant noise that generally was louder when deaccelerating, otherwise was much the same pitch or tone and did not change pitch with engine revs.
Upon inspection I found that it was one of the return pipes to the High pressure Diesel Injector Pump that was actually vibrating. Felt a bit like an electric toothbrush or the tip of one of those other "appliances" that may be found in ones Wife's bottom bedside drawer, if indeed one would have one. (I'm referring to wife, not the appliance, as they seem to go hand in hand.
Anyway, by putting some gentle pressure on the pipe, the vibration would cease and the noise stop. So I rigged up a cable tie arrangement that stopped the vibration and noise as per the photo below.
Has anyone else had the same, and if so, what was the fix? My concern is that maybe I have a non return valve or worse, the injector pump is on the way out. I shudder to think what that may cost. Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
