Not sure how to fix this on my WK2, but I remember my old KJ had the same problem (It's a Jeep thing), and pretty sure we fixed it by removing a fuse or the wire to the chime.
I daresay the technology on the WK2 with the computer and CANBUS wiring, it may not be as easy. For now, I just shut the door.
I had this in an old toyota - it was one of the first mods I did - it involved opening the dash and cutting a wire. I imagine the solution here will be similar, but as scarps pointed out, it may be a bit more difficult.
Cleaning the car yesterday....no chime with front passenger door open!! Only the drivers door. I think this might be an oversight with the car design (being based on an American RHD platform) however something that might be fixable with a TSB/Flash?
I doubt it is an oversighte - they have them to remind you not to leave your key in the car, so the passenger door being open isn't going to reflect that risk.
This really bugged me when I first washed it. The only quick-fix I found was to open the passenger door. But then I found the radio or ACC on timed out after 20 - 30 minutes and shuts down, then you start ACC again. Still a great car though
I think they removed the chime from the passenger side door because who wants to hear an annoying chime when you kick the wife out?
Did I say that out aloud?
Talking of chimes, should I get a chime when I go automatically into Aero mode at 100kmh? The EVIC shows up but there is no chime. I thought it did when I first drove it.
While slightly off topic, one thing I do appreciate is the sensible implementation of the seat belt chime. I often start the car for a few seconds before I getting in - my 97 Laredo used to "chime" LOUDLY as I wasnt buckled up. (ended up disconnecting a wire on the on the seat beat 'roll' within the B pillar - couldnt stand it)
Thankfully the 2012 has a bit more smarts and will actually tolerate the seat belt being disconnected for a FEW seconds if you reach over to get something. Noice
